The South West Heritage Trust are seeking seasonal relief Visitor Services Assistants to join our team, delivering a first class visitor experience at the Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury, the Museum of Somerset in Taunton and Avalon Archaeology, Avalon Marshes Centre, Westhay.
The post holders will be responsible for providing the highest standards of customer care – welcoming visitors to the sites, assisting with the security and maintenance and cleanliness of the site, assisting with events and helping with retail and selling tickets.
A basic awareness of health and safety and premises issues is required, and you must be confident and comfortable with using computers and other technical equipment (e.g. tills). You should also have a genuine enthusiasm about Somerset’s history and heritage, and be keen to share this to inform and inspire our visitors.
Maximum flexibility, and the ability to work additional hours/overtime, sometimes at short notice, is essential. Some posts include regular weekend working.
The South West Heritage Trust is a charity which delivers a broad range of heritage services across Somerset and Devon. We are a growing organisation, founded on services that were previously delivered by Somerset and Devon County Councils. With a turnover exceeding £3 million, we manage and run three museums (including the Museum of Somerset), two Archives and Local Studies services and look after the historic environment in Somerset.

The role will drive the review and development of inclusive volunteering policy and practice, supporting Regional Sport Partnerships to embed accessibility throughout their volunteer programmes. This will include conducting comprehensive stakeholder engagement activities (focus groups, interviews, and consultation sessions) with disabled volunteers, potential volunteers, and disability organisations to gather insights that inform actionable recommendations for change.
The position requires excellent relationship-building skills to assess current volunteer programmes, identify barriers to disabled people's participation, and facilitate connections between Regional Sport Partnerships and local disabled people's organisations. Experience in stakeholder engagement, research coordination, and developing training programmes is essential, as well as the ability to influence policy and drive long-term systemic change. Working collaboratively with Press Red and WIPAHS to analyse findings, produce comprehensive reports, and develop communications plans to amplify the voices of disabled volunteers will be central to the work programme.

Duties will include full leadership and where appropriate, management other staff for the creation, development, piloting and early implementation of the Welsh language programme ‘Read to Learn’ for use in secondary schools.

The Project
CAL:ON Cymru is a national centre of excellence for literacy at Bangor University, designed to transform children’s literacy outcomes across Wales. CAL:ON presents a coherent, bilingual, and evidence-based pan-Wales strategy, delivered in partnership with all 22 local authorities.
Three interlinked work packages will create lasting impact.
Work Package 1 develops new bilingual professional learning modules (blended asynchronous and synchronous formats) aligned with Curriculum for Wales for primary and secondary schools. Embedded in Initial Teacher Education (ITE), co-developed with educators, these resources and guidance permeate the Welsh education system for a transformative, evidence-based approach to literacy tuition.
Work Package 2 develops and trials effective, bilingual whole class literacy programmes and interventions for ages 4 – 16 years —including adapted versions of the successful NELI and RILL programmes—across the national school network. Robust evaluation via Randomised Controlled Trials (RCT) informs national guidance and rollout.
Work Package 3 responds to the urgent need to identify learners at risk of falling behind by providing new bilingual, co-designed assessment tools at key transition points. Tools support timely intervention while reducing teacher workload and aligning with the Curriculum for Wales ethos.

The post holder will lead a large research team, working in the area of secondary-school provision.
The post holder will be responsible for leading on the research underpinning material creation, leading on curriculum design and lesson plans.
Acting as a source of expert advice, the post holder will contribute their substantial knowledge of the primary and secondary educational landscape to the project. They will also contribute to policy by taking the lead in managing client relationships, where appropriate. They will prepare and negotiate proposals independently and project manage several aspects of the project identifying and leading on staff development and delivery.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard are undertaking a once-in-a-lifetime repair on HMS Victory: The Big Repair.
As we move into the next phase of the major Conservation Programme, we are growing the team and looking for Shipwrights to join a friendly, multidisciplinary team of museum professionals. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to be part of conserving the world’s oldest commissioned ship.
You will be engaged in the conservation activities on board of HMS Victory with opportunities to work both on historic structures and new timbers. The new structures are produced in our state-of-the-art workshop and then fitted on board. Shipwrights are also involved in conservation and preservation of historic timber and metal components alongside the NMRN conservators team.
Overseen by the Lead Shipwrights, your work will ensure that the NMRN’s Historic Ships are conserved and able to operate effectively and safely. The ships are open all year round as public attractions, so you will also be able to engage with our visitors about the important conservation work that you are undertaking.
You may also spend time based on our other Portsmouth ships - HMS Warrior and HMS M33 - with occasional travel to the Museum’s other locations in the UK, including Gosport, Hartlepool and Belfast. Occasional weekend working may be required.
What you can bring:
- Specialist knowledge of construction of maritime joinery/shipwright practice, conservation and maintenance of historic ships, vessels or historic buildings.
- Experience in traditional boat or Ship building, Joinery or timber construction techniques.
- Qualified to Level 3 City & Guilds Boatbuilding (2463-03) or equivalent Woodworking qualification or experience
- Practical working knowledge of Health and Safety.
- As you will be removing planking from the hull of HMS Victory, this will be a physically demanding role which will require manual handling on a daily basis.
- A positive attitude and ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

The Public Sector Fellow is responsible for directly engaging state and government disclosers on CDP environmental disclosure and other related topics. The role is dedicated to bringing in new disclosers to CDP and supporting the Disclosure teams goals
What you will do
Critical Discloser Engagement and Success Proactively engage cities, counties, states, provinces, territories, and public authorities to disclose to CDP and support them through their disclosure via emails and phone calls. Work with multiple systems and tools to maintain and track relationships. Engagement Support Build upon the case of disclosure for targeted organizations. Conduct research to build upon the case of disclosure for targeted organizations. Co-manage a support inbox to provide key information to new and previously responding organizations, helping to secure participation in CDP programs. Answer inbound queries on the questionnaire and review responses to support optimal data qualify, the advancement of climate policy and participant satisfaction. Knowledge and Expertise Improve existing and develop new engagement content, including presentation slide decks and other resources.
