Background:
The Federation of Disability Sport Wales (or Disability Sport Wales (DSW)) are the lead organisation in Wales for disability sport and sport for disabled people. We are a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. We share the vision for sport in Wales (an active nation where everyone can have lifelong enjoyment of sport) and our mission is to:
influence, include, inspire, insport
We do this through the provision of specific programmes (insport programmes, insport Series Events, Performance Development Camps) and services (Education and Training for those involved with physical activity (including sport)) which is intended to support a pathway of choice from initial engagement to performance sport at the highest level.
We are a small team of highly committed, passionate individuals whose shared purpose is to advocate for an inclusive approach within the sector.
DSW Value Statements
You will always be able to expect DSW (as an organisation and individuals within the team) to:
- Champion Everyone- We believe in meaningful opportunity, broad diversity and great achievement. People drive all that we do.
- Proudly Welsh- We embody and celebrate what it is to be Welsh.
- Value Growth- We are committed to development and inclusive change and will always support that.
- Highlight Possibility- We connect opportunities and prioritise partnerships, so people get what they need.
The Opportunity:
The Opportunity:
The role will drive the review and development of inclusive volunteering policy and practice, supporting Regional Sport Partnerships to embed accessibility throughout their volunteer programmes. This will include conducting comprehensive stakeholder engagement activities (focus groups, interviews, and consultation sessions) with disabled volunteers, potential volunteers, and disability organisations to gather insights that inform actionable recommendations for change.
The position requires excellent relationship-building skills to assess current volunteer programmes, identify barriers to disabled people's participation, and facilitate connections between Regional Sport Partnerships and local disabled people's organisations. Experience in stakeholder engagement, research coordination, and developing training programmes is essential, as well as the ability to influence policy and drive long-term systemic change. Working collaboratively with Press Red and WIPAHS to analyse findings, produce comprehensive reports, and develop communications plans to amplify the voices of disabled volunteers will be central to the work programme.
The successful applicant will be a key member of the DSW team, working with the Regional Sport Partnership. A personable, inquisitive, empathetic and strategic candidate, who can engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, from disabled volunteers to partnership leaders, and is passionate about championing inclusion and accessibility would be well suited to this role.
This is a key role within the DSW team and reflects the organisation's commitment to establishing effective partnerships that create sustainable, inclusive volunteering opportunities for disabled people across Wales.
