The 2026 TCS London Marathon is a 26.2 mile run around central London with over 40,000 people taking part. Mencap has over 128 runners taking part and fundraising for us. They will run on Sunday 26 April 2026. Each of our runners will try to raise £2,500. We want to give them as much support as possible so will have cheer points along the route, and a post race reception to congratulate them for their achievement!
We need volunteers to join us at one of our 3 cheer points - the cheer points are at Tower Bridge, Embankment, or at the Finish Line on the Mall! For these roles you will need to come ready to cheer and high five our amazing runners! Sometimes, roads or tube stations might also be closed, so you may not be able to go your planned route to your cheer point. However, you will have a volunteer manager on the who will be on hand to support you who you can call to give you guidance on where to go! Earlier and later volunteers shifts will also be less busy if you prefer to be away from the crowd.

Do you want to help us improve human health and understand life on Earth? Make your mark by shaping the future to enable or deliver life-changing science to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges.
Join the Frontier of Human Genomics and Disease Prediction
Become a Group Leader at the Wellcome Sanger Institute
At the Wellcome Sanger Institute, we’re rethinking how human data can be used to understand, predict and ultimately change the course of disease. We’re hiring Group Leaders to join our Human Genetics Programme where large-scale cohorts, longitudinal multi-omics and patient data come together to power predictive models of health and disease.
About the Programme
Our mission is bold: to generate the datasets, build the predictive models and develop the causal understanding needed to predict, prevent and treat human disease. We design and generate large-scale, longitudinal multi-omic resources, tightly linked to detailed patient data, and use these to understand how genetic and environmental variation shape molecular states, trajectories and outcomes. We will use AI, machine learning, and robust causal inference methods to turn that understanding into better risk prediction, diagnosis and treatment, deriving openly accessible predictive models that are generalisable and transferable between populations and clinical contexts.
You’ll join a group of creative faculty comprising Carl Anderson, Emma Davenport, Matthew Hurles, Hilary Martin and Gosia Trynka, with strong links across the Institute’s diverse programmes — Cellular Genomics, Cancer, Ageing and Somatic Mutation,
The programme offers sustained core funding, large-scale technology and informatics platforms and a genuinely collaborative, supportive working environment in the Cambridge–London science hub. If you’re excited by our ambitious mission and want to make a bold, personal contribution to it in an environment that values diverse perspectives and inclusive collaboration, we want to hear from you.
Who We’re Looking For:
We welcome applications from researchers with backgrounds in clinical medicine, human genetics, genomics and multi-omics, epidemiology, statistics, computer science, clinical informatics and AI/ML. We are keen to hear from both clinician scientists and non-clinical/basic scientists. We do not expect any individual to span all of the areas below; we are looking for depth and originality in one or more of them, together with a strong commitment to collaboration.
You might, for example, have expertise in:
-
Human genetics and multi-omics for complex traits and diseases.
-
Epidemiology and longitudinal cohort design and analysis.
-
Electronic health records and real-world data science, including phenotyping and data linkage.
-
Causal inference and statistical methods for target and biomarker prioritisation.
-
Development and application of AI/ML and predictive modelling methods using multi-omic and clinical data.

Vacancy: Postdoctoral Fellow in Sociology – SOFI, Stockholm University
The Postdoctoral position is part of the research programme “Sustainable synergies” (www.su.se/english/research/research-projects/sustainable-synergies). The aim of the programme, which is based on both internationally comparative research and in-depth analyses of Sweden and the Nordic countries, is to study how social policy and the welfare state can be developed to support a sustainable working life for everyone. In focus are the working-life transitions that individuals make during their lifecourse, and the programme examines how the interplay between different social policies can support successful transitions for different groups in the labour market. Potential interplays include between different policies within a policy area (e.g. education policy) as well as between different policy areas (e.g. health and pension policies). The programme builds upon quantitative data, and programme members make use of for instance comparative country-level data, comparative individual-level surveys, as well as individual-level register data from the Nordic countries.
Main responsibilities
Research within the programme is organized around five crucial life-course transitions: between school and work, work and family formation, work and ill health, work and retraining, and work and retirement. The postdoctoral research will be part of one or more of the work packages around these transitions, depending on research interests.
The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to develop and pursue independent research corresponding to that of the research program. An initial outline of research questions is to be included in the application in the form of a research plan. However, although independent research is essential, collaboration with senior colleagues is encouraged should opportunities arise.
Qualification requirements
In order to qualify for a Postdoctoral position, applicants are required to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent relevant degree from another country. The degree must have been completed no later than when the employment decision is made.
Assessment criteria
The applicant must hold a doctoral degree in sociology or a related discipline. It is considered an advantage if the doctoral degree or an equivalent degree was completed no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Under special circumstances, an older degree may also be an advantage. Special circumstances refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to:
- The quality of earlier research and qualifications
- The degree to which the applicant’s research plan and previous research support the overall goals of the Sustainable synergies program
- Skills and experience relevant for the analysis of life-course transitions and social policy using quantitative research methods
- Written and spoken English skills, where the applicant is expected to be fluent.
About the employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2026-03-02 or as per agreement.
The Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI) is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Stockholm University. The institute is an internationally leading research institute in the field of social policy, welfare, inequality and labour markets and has over 90 employees.

Do you want to help us improve human health and understand life on Earth? Make your mark by shaping the future to enable or deliver life-changing science to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges.
Join the Frontier of Biodiversity Genomics - Become a Group Leader at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.
At the Wellcome Sanger Institute, we’re shaping the future of biology — and we’re looking for collaborative, creative, and visionary scientists to help lead the way. We’re hiring a new Group Leader to join our pioneering Tree of Life Programme, using advanced genomics to better understand life’s diversity.
About the Programme
Our mission is bold: to generate data at scale to address fundamental questions about the diversity of life at the genomic level. Our world-class programme merges large-scale data generation with focussed analysis of pattern and process in evolution, delivering to overarching goals of conservation of biodiversity, fueling a biotechnological progress and contributing to the health of human societies.
You’ll join a group of creative faculty including Mark Blaxter, Mara Lawniczak,
in the Tree of Life programme, with strong links across the Institute’s other research programmes (

If you’re excited by ambitious science and want to work in an environment that values diverse perspectives and inclusive collaboration, we want to hear from you.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking an exceptional researcher whose ambitions depend on diverse eukaryotic genomes and large scale analysis. We anticipate recruiting in one of the following areas:
- Cell atlasing across biodiversity:Theis a growing initiative that aims to use the technologies pioneered by the Human Cell Atlas (and colleagues in the Cellular Genetics Programme at Sanger) to profile species across the eukaryotic tree using single cell functional genomics methods to reveal cell-type orthology, discover the origins of distinct cell types and reveal the regulatory systems that generate this diversity.Biodiversity Cell Atlas
- Phylogenomics at megascale:devising algorithms, engineering toolkits and reconstructing phylogenetic relationships of genes and species, exploiting the power of reference quality genomes
- Biodiversity AI:Deploying AI to discover fundamental rules of genome organisation across diversity, including gene structure and regulatory system prediction
- Direct application of biodiversity genomics datain conservation, landscape ecology, bioengineering or any other field with clear impact on ongoing problems humanity is facing
If you are not sure whether your research objectives would fit into the Tree of Life...
