We’re WWT, the charity for wetlands and wildlife. We’re on a mission to restore wetlands because they are a wondrous solution to our world's problems. Together we will unlock their power – and help nature burst back to life. Because when wetlands flourish, all life will flourish.
As a volunteer videographer at our wetland centre, you will play a vital role in helping us to inspire our visitors to connect with wetlands and wildlife. In this role you will be visiting WWT Martin Mere weekly or every two weeks to capture wildlife spectacles, species, visitors’ experiences and our volunteers for inclusion in promotional material online and for short-form video content across social media.
What will you be doing?
- Capturing videos of the centre, its wildlife, wetland landscapes, events and people (depending on skill level).
- Receiving direction from the centre Marketing Officer and HQ content team as well as taking videos whenever you find an opportunity.
- Working proactively with staff and volunteers at your local centre to capture key events and wildlife sightings that would make engaging content for website, marketing materials, social media etc.
Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training and anything else you need.
If you are interested in volunteering for WWT but don't wish to apply online, please email volunteering@wwt.org.uk or leave a message at 01453 891 231 with your name and number.
Just to let you know, some of our roles are very popular. To help our teams and minimise disappointment for people kind enough to want to support us, we might take roles down before the closing date if we get a lot of applications. If you do miss a role, or are looking for something particular, you can sign up to opportunity alerts.
No formal qualifications are required but you will ideally be able to provide good quality examples of footage you have taken to demonstrate a high level of skill in any or all of wildlife, landscape, or people videography.
In addition, this role would be suitable for you if you:
- Have use of your own video equipment
- Are proactive in seeking out creative content opportunities
- Are patient and willing to spend time waiting for the right video opportunities
- Have a keen eye for shooting and editing interesting and inspiring video content
- Are comfortable with file handling and transfer between centres and HQ at Slimbridge
In order for you – and us – to reap the most benefit from this role, we would hope that you could offer a minimum of six months commitment.
Please note that WWT retains copyright of any material you shoot while you are on its premises (including centres, grounds and reserves).
Unfortunately this role is not suitable for Under 18's.
We’re WWT, and we’re on a mission to restore the super-powered ecosystems we call wetlands. There’s never been a more important moment for our work, and we’ve got some phenomenal people on the case.
Whether they’re taking a new visitor under their wing, or conducting ground-breaking research further afield, our team are second to none. And there’s nothing we love more than watching them soar.
Whatever you do here, you’ll be helping to restore wetlands and unlock their power. So, the only question left is, what role will you play?
- Feel good knowing you are helping to restore wetlands, and our world
- Be surrounded and inspired by like-minded wetland lovers
- Hear from the people who inject their energy, passion and expertise into wetlands and wildlife - talks, walks, webinars, tea and cake...
- Free entry to all our wetland centres, including your family
