Job overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Deputy Manager to join our supported living service in Hull, supporting adults with complex mental health needs and substance misuse challenges. Our clients often have dual diagnoses and experience with trauma, requiring a trauma-informed, person-centred approach from someone who can lead with empathy and resilience.
This is not a 9–5 role – due to the complex and often unpredictable nature of the client group, we need someone who is flexible, responsive, and prepared to adapt to the needs of the service. You’ll work closely with the service manager to lead a dedicated team, ensure high standards of support, and help individuals on their journey toward stability and greater independence.
This is a temporary role, the length of the role will be reviewed.
This role would suit someone with experience in mental health, substance misuse or the criminal justice system, who understands the rewards and challenges of supporting individuals within the community.
Main duties of the job
- Support the Service Managerin the day-to-day running of the supported living service, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.
- Provide strong, compassionate leadershipto a team of support workers, fostering a positive and resilient team culture.
- Oversee the delivery of person-centred supportfor clients with complex mental health conditions, substance misuse histories, and challenging behaviours.
- Contribute to risk assessments, support planning, and crisis management, ensuring safety, dignity, and respect are at the forefront of care.
- Liaise and build strong partnershipswith external agencies including mental health teams, substance misuse services, probation, housing providers, and crisis teams.
- Support with recruitment, staff development, supervisions, and performance management, helping build a competent and confident workforce.
- Monitor service delivery and quality, including participating in audits, compliance checks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote a culture of safeguarding and accountability, ensuring that concerns are appropriately identified, reported, and acted upon.
- Contribute to rota planning and ensure adequate staffing levels, sometimes providing hands-on support when required.
- Be available outside core hours, including flexible working, to respond to incidents, support staff, or ensure the stability of the service.
- It is essential that you have a driving licence and access to a vehicle.

We are looking for a committed and resilient Deputy Manager to join our supported living service in Hull, supporting adults with complex mental health needs and substance misuse challenges. Our service empowers individuals to work towards independence, stability, and recovery in a safe and structured environment.
You will support the service manager in leading a skilled staff team and ensuring high-quality, person-centred support. You’ll play a key role in overseeing risk management, care planning and safeguarding.
This is not a typical 9–5 role. Due to the nature of the service and the complex needs of our clients, flexibility is essential. You’ll need to be adaptable, emotionally resilient, and confident in managing challenging situations.
Key responsibilities include:
