Summary of Role:
Students show a strong commitment to Psychology at Woldingham, and they achieve impressive grades in public examinations. Each year a number of girls go on to degree courses in Psychology and related subjects and our department has an excellent record of UCAS success. Leadership of the department is dynamic and inspiring, emphasising the exciting progress of research in this field.
Our facilities and resources for teaching Psychology are excellent. Psychology is taught in the new Sixth Form Centre. Each classroom has a touchscreen interactive whiteboard, glass walls for collaborative work and revision, and climate control. This building also houses the Sixth Form Café and the Library, as well as silent study space and a collaborative work room. There is an extensive library of online resources for the department, including ExamPro and Kerboodle.
We offer the AQA A Level specification. This course is assessed by three, two-hour papers at the end of the course. There is no coursework. The main textbooks used are The Complete Companions series, books one and two, published by Oxford publishing, and students will be supported by online versions of these books in the future.
We are looking for an outstanding Teacher of Psychology with a passion for education. The post will suit a wellqualified individual, committed to delivering an exceptional learning experience for every pupil. The department focus on equipping students with a strong knowledge base and the ability to evaluate as wide a range of perspectives as possible. We continually encourage independent thought and learning. There is also a strong culture across the department of sharing resources and ideas. We are looking for a colleague who will be proactive in raising the profile of the department, including the development of its academic societies and Oxbridge mentoring.
Specific Responsibilities:

To teach classes as allocated by the Head of Department.

To plan and prepare schemes of work and lessons thoroughly, according to department and school policies.

To prepare relevant classes for public examinations at A Level, according to the specifications above.

To manage pupils’ behaviour and promote a working atmosphere in lessons by following department and school policy.

To set, mark and assess work, record assessments and write reports according to department and school schedules and policies.

To write and mark examination/test papers as directed and prepare mark schemes when necessary.

To support the department’s work by contributing to initiatives and taking on responsibilities which are reasonably allocated by the Head of Department.

To contribute to the co-curricular programme.

To undertake supervisory duties.

To undertake the duties of a form tutor part time.
