Job Title: Specialist Finance Officer – Rents
Job Location: Central Services, Riverside House, Salisbury
Reporting to: Head of Finance
Hours of Work: 18.75 hours per week
Purpose of the Job:
As the Specialist Finance Officer – Rents you will be responsible for supporting the Head of Finance to maintain the rent system, ensure housing benefit and personal contributions are accounted for correctly, review and check housing benefit letters and complete the rent month end and year end processes.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, but working with the other Specialist Finance Officers, this role will assist the Finance Department as necessary.
Rents & Rent Setting:
Support the Head of Finance with the annual rent setting process, monitoring award letters and payments to ensure that all awards are adopted in a timely manner. Contacting councils where there are any delays or issues with payments.
Ensuring that underpaid housing benefit is properly corrected in later payments by councils.
• Deal with queries arising on service users accounts and reconciliation problems
Data Input:
• Input accurately, completely all relevant data into the computerised financial systems in accordance with the charity’s procedures.
• Bring to the attention of the Head of Finance any concerns regarding the integrity or validity of any transaction.
Follow up any discrepancies promptly, ensuring a properly documented trail, recommend/discuss any necessary changes in procedures with the Head of Finance to prevent reoccurrences
Sales Ledger:
• Post out sales invoices at month end to ensure payment is received promptly
• Ensure that Housing Benefit schedules are entered into the rent system
• Review all starters/leavers for accuracy, make any necessary adjustments
• To have an involvement in the credit control process & monthly chasing of debts.
Office Support:
Answer any query received from stakeholders relating to your area of responsibility, efficiently & effective. In the absence of another finance officer, you may need to answer queries relating to other areas.
• When required, train project staff in financial procedures.
