About Autism Plus
Autism Plus are a leading Yorkshire Charity supporting adults and young people with autism, learning disabilities, mental health conditions and complex needs.
In 1986 the Charity was created by a group of parents looking for the very best support for their children who were about to leave a specialist school. Once they reached the age of 17, they found there was little or no support. The belief set by our founding parents, to empower more people to live independent, fulfilling lives remains our focus today.
We employ over 350 people across the north of England in care support services, employment support and social enterprise businesses.

Job summary
This role will entail working with individuals with autism or related conditions to help them move towards sustainable paid employment through a variety of interventions.
You will be required to work within the Employment Service as part of a team where your main goal will be to improve the life opportunities for a range of individuals with autism.
This role will involving working with a range of individuals with Neurodivergent conditions on a 1:1 basis either across the North Yorkshire and York region within the community. This will entail supporting individuals in a person centered manner to overcome barriers and progress towards voluntary work/ further education and/or employment.
The role will require supporting individuals at all stages of their journey towards employment from engagement and confidence building through to developing employability skills and also supporting individuals in the workplace to sustain employment long term.
The role will be delivering a range of frontline interventions to support the development of the service and continuous growth of our employment provisions. The role will be home based but you will be expected to be out and about in the community the majority of the time working directly with individuals.
This will be a very varied role, therefore the individual needs to be pro-active and have a flexible approach to their job role.
Your role will involve working with a range of organisation to overcome barriers for those you support including housing, social care, DWP as well as others. You will be expected to be working with employers to identify opportunities for individuals as well as ensuring that individuals settle into the workplace.
Our employment services team is constantly developing new projects and you will be involved in developing ideas for these projects and have the opportunity to be involved in delivering elements of new projects as and when funding is secured.
Key responsibilities
Support to individuals with Neurodivergent conditions
- To implement an individuals action plan in a person-centred way.
- To identify and approach employers to create opportunities for customers – using job carving/ job creation and through relationship building with employers
- To actively engage with employers to achieve job outcomes and sustainment in employment for those we support
- To develop effective ongoing links with employers to become first point of contact for future vacancies and identify work trials and other approaches towards securing outcomes for customers
- To work proactively with external organisations and stakeholders to ensure barriers are supported and overcome as part of the journey towards employment
- To enable individuals to become as independent as possible and to grow in confidence, with the ultimate goal of progressing towards paid employment
- Ensure that adequate records are kept for each customer in line with Autism Plus policies and procedures.
- To encourage and support individuals in expressing their needs, views and concerns. To enable individuals make choices and decisions and participate as fully as possible in planning and decision making processes.
- Develop meaningful and trusting relationships with individuals to enhance their confidence, self esteem, personal development and general sense of wellbeing.
- Travel across North Yorkshire to meet individuals in their local communities, with flexibility to undertake longer journeys where required to ensure full regional coverage
