We are looking for  a Senior Wigs, Hair and Make-Up Technician (Textured Hair Specialist) to join the National Theatre's Wigs, Hair and Make-Up team.  

As the Senior WH&M Technician specialising in textured hair you will have excellent barbering and hair cutting skills to support the WHAM Supervisors and advise cast members. You will work alongside the team of WH&M Supervisors, Senior Technicians and Assistants in providing all aspects of Wig, Hair and Make-up provision for all productions at the NT.

Alongside supervision of individual projects, you will maintain a strong overview of the work across the whole department and be the point of contact to support the team and actors where necessary.

As a Senior WH&M Technician your role is to ensure effective and efficient hair maintenance and an understanding of the company’s hair requirements for all new productions and incoming shows. You will work with high profile directors and designers to understand and deliver the requirements of the artistic team, with your specific knowledge of textured hair needs within the financial and time resource allocated.

It is important the agreed artistic design is maintained for all aspects of the production, by supervising and supporting show staff to fulfil these duties throughout the run of the show, for NT Live filming and marketing (photoshoots and video).

The successful candidates will have the following:  

  • Excellent barbering and hair-dressing skills essentially working with textured hair.
  • Hair styling, wig making and make-up working on all skin tones, gained through demonstrable experience in theatre, film or TV.
  • Have up to date knowledge of hair, make up and prosthetic products used across the industry.
  • Proven experience of understanding, interpreting, and realising creative requirements in a sympathetic manner when working with the wider production team.
  • A good knowledge of the historical period hairdressing and make up.
