Project Description
This is a varied role supporting street homeless and vulnerably housed clients. Working as part of a close-knit supportive team on the breakfast run, at Zac’s Place (where shelter, food & drink, referrals to outreach nurses, clothing and showers is available), and outreach support across the Swansea answering StreetLink and local authority emails.
We also allocate Emergency Beds and manage chalet accommodation. Our role is to provide short-term humanitarian support (food, drink, clothing, personal hygiene, referrals to partner agencies for health, housing and benefits) but also very much to support clients to move into accommodation with the necessary support to succeed.
Purpose of Role
To coordinate and provide support that enables and empowers Service Users to address housing and/or personal difficulties, build their skills and confidence, and ultimately improve their ability to access and maintain accommodation. The support will not create or increase dependence. It will ‘do with’ rather than ‘do for’. Support will help people improve their control, understanding and involvement in dealing with the issues that affect them, and assist Service Users to achieve their preferred outcomes.
In addition to the above Senior Support Workers will also carry out the following:
To assist the Service Manager in managing the Project and to deputise when necessary.
To liaise closely with Swansea Hostels, Housing Options, other Wallich Projects, and Swansea agencies.
To take an active role in progressing the breakfast run and assertive outreach role of the project. To allocate emergency beds and emergency chalets following appropriate procedures for health and safety, client safety, staff safety and good building management.
To be responsible for allocating work to Support Workers in the Managers absence and capable of making difficult decisions regarding an individual’s welfare and accommodation.
Applicant should be competent in using computers, sending emails, attaching documents, attending meetings via Teams and ideally in using Inform or similar. With a good understanding of Microsoft office.
