Job description
Job purpose
You will contribute to the project “SCN1A Horizons: A natural history study of SCN1A-related epilepsy in the United Kingdom” led by Prof Andreas Brunklaus, School of Health & Wellbeing, University of Glasgow. This is a UK-wide, longitudinal study recruiting participants with a rare genetic epilepsy across 25+ NHS sites.
The post-holder will be fulfilling an important role within the SCN1A Horizons study team, providing administrative support relevant to the day to day demands of the SCN1A Horizons study including delivering study-related support to study teams across the UK, supporting data quality and delivering database training. The successful candidate will join a small, established team at an exciting time in the progress of this ambitious, non-commercial study.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Support the Project Coordinator and Principal Investigators in management of the project, applying sound judgement and applying established processes and procedures. Activities are likely to include, but are not limited to;
1.Knowledge and awareness of all day-to-day aspects of SCN1A Horizons.
2.Supporting Project Coordinator and Investigators, as necessary, with recruitment activity in line with college/school/research institute procedures and project change processes and control
3.Providing support to other studies which may emerge within the Horizons framework.
4.Travel booking and expense payment processing.
5.Weekly database clinical visit quality checking and raising of queries to study sites.
6.Monitoring of study clinician and caregiver form returns within study database.
7.Supporting site monitoring visits.
8.Database training and adhoc support to study teams across the UK.
9.Ordering of study-related materials.
10.Oversight of event coordination - annual steering committee meetings and team away days.
11.Support formulation of Standard Operating Procedures/study policy and process development.
12.Preparation for, and facilitation of, audits and/or inspections.
13.Maintenance of study database.
14. Undertake and participate in continued professional development activities.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
A1. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2. Up-to-date knowledge of research regulations and training in Good Clinical Practice guidelines and non-CTIMP studies.
Skills
Essential
C1. Ability to work proactively and independently to prioritise, take appropriate initiative, and work without supervision.
C2. Able to maintain high standards of numerical and data accuracy, with attention to detail and professionalism.
C3. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
C4. High proficiency in use of IT platforms (e.g., Microsoft packages excel, word, outlook) and databases.
C5. Ability to use initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently.
C6. Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing environments, independently and as part of a team.
Experience
Essential
E1 Experience of working with complex dataset and database systems.
E2 Knowledge and experience of Higher Education research administration.
Desirable
F1. Knowledge of medical and neuropsychological terminology and/or experience of working in a healthcare setting.
F2. Experience of working in a supporting role with researchers.
F3. Up-to-date knowledge and awareness of current issues of research within UK HEIs.
F4. Experience of web edition and use of web publishing software.
F5. Experience delivering training materials in person and/or online.
F6. Experience of working as part of and supporting a national or international project.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,951 - £37,694 per annum, pro rata.
This post is part-time (28 hours per week), and open ended with funding available up until 31st December 2026 in the first instance.
