The Senior IT & AV Engineer is a key member of the College’s IT team, helping to ensure that reliable, secure and high-quality IT and AV services support the College’s academic, administrative and operational goals. The role provides expert technical support and acts as a senior escalation point for staff, students, Fellows and College guests, while contributing to the effective operation, maintenance and development of the College’s infrastructure and services. Working closely with colleagues across the College, University Information Services (UIS), suppliers and contractors, the postholder will apply professional judgement and best-practice approaches to resolve complex issues, improve service quality and support the continued development of the College’s IT provision.

Primary responsibilities:

IT support and service delivery
  • Act as a senior point of contact for IT and AV support to staff, students, Fellows and College guests, providing expert technical advice, troubleshooting and resolution across a broad range of systems and services.

  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance and co-ordination for other members of the support team, acting as an escalation point for complex incidents and helping to maintain consistent standards of service delivery.

IT infrastructure and systems

• Provide specialist technical administration, maintenance, development and support across the College’s IT infrastructure and services, including:

❖ wired and wireless network infrastructure, including switches, wireless access points, VLANs, network configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting;

❖ network services including DNS, DHCP, IP addressing and associated infrastructure services;

❖ network performance, resilience and security, including the investigation and resolution of complex connectivity and Wi-Fi issues;

❖ server infrastructure and associated hardware and software;

❖ staff, student, administrative and Fellows’ computing facilities; and

❖ the security of College networks, systems and endpoint devices.

Audio visual and meeting-room technology

• Providing technical support for the College’s AV and meeting-room facilities, including diagnosis of faults, maintenance of systems and support for significant College meetings, events and conferences where required.

Service improvement and professional development

• Planning and delivering IT infrastructure and service-improvement projects under the guidance of the Head of IT and IT Manager, contributing to the development of the College’s IT services and medium-term technical planning.

Working arrangements and salary

This is a permanent appointment (subject to a 3-month probation period).

Competitive salary range of £36,000 to £40,000 pa, depending on skills and experience.

This role is 37.5 hours per week, core hours will be 10am-4pm, with some flexibility outside these hours. The role is an in-person role.
