Make a Difference to Children, Young People and Families

We are looking for compassionate and motivated SENDIASS Practitioners to join our team in Sefton. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to support children, young people and families navigating Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) services while developing specialist knowledge within a supportive environment.

About the Role

Location: Sefton

Salary: £24,864 per annum (FTE)

As a SENDIASS Practitioner, you will provide impartial, confidential and legally based information, advice and support to children and young people aged 0–25 and their families across Sefton.

You will help families understand their rights, navigate SEND processes and access the support they need across education, health and social care services.

The role is primarily office-based, with some outreach work, attendance at external meetings and occasional evening or weekend appointments.

A full driving licence, access to a vehicle and business-use insurance are essential.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Provide impartial SEND information, advice and support via telephone, email, online platforms and face-to-face appointments
  • Explain rights and responsibilities under SEND legislation
  • Support families through Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments, appeals and tribunals
  • Help families understand local policies, procedures and the Sefton Local Offer
  • Support with complaints, disagreement resolution and routes of redress
  • Triage referrals and undertake focused casework
  • Represent or support families during meetings, mediations and tribunal processes
  • Work directly with young people aged 16–25, parents/carers and professionals
  • Deliver drop-in sessions to support service users with assessments, reviews and complaints paperwork
  • Promote the SENDIASS service through events, outreach and partnership working
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to monitoring and reporting requirements
  • Keep up to date with SEND legislation, policy and best practice
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014, SEN Code of Practice and related legislation
  • Experience supporting vulnerable children, young people and families
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to present complex information clearly and accessibly
  • Experience working within multi-agency environments
  • Strong organisational and IT skills, including databases and Microsoft Excel
  • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection requirements
  • Ability to remain impartial and professional in challenging situations
  • Willingness to undertake specialist SEND legal framework training
  • A current driving licence and access to a car with business insurance

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification (e.g. A Level)

Desirable

  • Experience delivering training or workshops
  • Experience working within educational settings
  • Experience in mediation, conflict resolution or dispute resolution
