About Waythrough

Waythrough was formed in 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Together, we’ve created one of the largest mental health and social support charities in England.

Every year, we support around 125,000 people through nearly 200 services – and it’s all made possible by our 3,500 brilliant staff and volunteers.

Make a real difference in your community

Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

About the role

As a Front of Entry Worker, you will be the first point of contact for individuals accessing the service, providing a welcoming, professional, and supportive environment.

You will play a key role in ensuring that people are guided into the service appropriately and receive the right support from the outset.

A core part of the role involves contacting individuals who have been referred into the service, clearly explaining what the service offers, and completing brief initial assessments. This ensures each individual is triaged effectively and allocated to the most appropriate team based on their needs.

You will also support key operational duties, including delivering frontline services such as needle exchange provision and completing associated assessments in line with organisational and clinical guidelines.

The role requires strong communication skills, empathy, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to manage sensitive conversations with professionalism.

What You’ll Do

  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies and multidisciplinary teams to complete assessments, deliver key working sessions, and provide interventions that support progression from engagement through structured treatment to sustained recovery.
  • Facilitate access to appropriate treatment pathways, psychosocial interventions, community resources, and peer support, promoting social inclusion, harm reduction, and sustained recovery.
  • Deliver evidence-based one-to-one and group interventions, ensuring interventions are responsive to individual needs and aligned with best practice.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and contribute to case reviews, team meetings, and multi-agency discussions.
  • Work in line with safeguarding procedures, clinical governance standards, and organisational policies at all times.

To Succeed in This Role, You’ll Need

  • Knowledge of harm reduction approaches in relation to substance misuse and recovery-oriented models of care (practical experience is desirable).
  • Understanding of, and ability to deliver, evidence-based interventions such as: Brief Interventions, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Psychosocial Interventions (PSIs), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), ITEP (Intensive Treatment Effectiveness Programme)
  • Experience in assessment, recovery planning, and developing effective risk management and safeguarding plans.
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload, prioritise workload, and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate individuals from a range of backgrounds.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
