Job description

Job Purpose

The postholder will project manage CRYSTAL Immune, a pan-European consortium and the first ever study to comprehensively address the nature and limitations of immune responses in CNS-Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). The study is led by Professor Chris Halsey, University of Glasgow, and Dr Alasdair Duguid (Chief Investigator), University of Edinburgh. The study will be managed and coordinated by the postholder (based at the University of Glasgow) and sponsored by the University of Edinburgh. CRYSTAL Immune is funded by Fight Kids Cancer, European Science Foundation.

The postholder’s duties will include coordinating UK and international sites, ensuring efficient sample accrual, organising sample shipments, complying with all necessary regulatory requirements, providing secure data curation, budget management and complying with the funder’s reporting requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To deliver day-to-day management and co-ordination of the CRYSTAL Immune study for UK and European sites.

2. To work in partnership with the study sponsor, The University of Edinburgh, the study’s PPI facilitator and the CRYSTAL Immune investigators.

3. Responsible for organising the delivery of appropriate steering and operational groups, to discuss and identify any barriers to project delivery, review and update documents and take forward any actions.

4. To proactively collaborate with funders, e.g. Fight Kids Cancer, and key partners/colleagues both internally and externally.

5. Maintaining and ensuring the integrity of all project data and information.

6. To lead and report on the budget performance with respect to all activities which will include invoicing across partner institutions where appropriate.

7. To manage and monitor effective communications (e.g. stakeholder newsletter) to ensure high levels of engagement and visibility.

8. Act as a central point of contact for staff providing expert support and advice.

9. Take a leading role in preparing, analysing and producing project reports for funders, ethics committees, sponsor and appropriate steering groups; to interpret the information and provide recommendations to inform strategic development and decision making.

10. Contribute and support funder and other audits, ensuring accurate audit records are maintained and attend meetings with auditors, as required.

11. Be actively involved in appropriate intra and inter-institutional collaborative working to build networks, share best practice, develop web-based resources and provide training.

Essential

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, or equivalent in a relevant discipline/business area with evidence of continued professional development in an area relevant to the role

C1 Knowledge and understanding of clinical studies

C2 Extensive skills in using various communication channels and media

C3 Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels in a professional and personable manner

C4 High level of influencing and negotiating skills, and ability to motivate and enthuse others

C5 Ability to work flexibly and independently, assess and adapt to changing priorities and manage own workload effectively

C6 Ability to build productive relationships within and out with the University

C7 Ability to prepare written reports and collate and summarise complex information, ideally with experience in reporting to funders/senior management

C8 Capable of working effectively with people at all levels of seniority and across organisational boundaries

C9 Ability to manage budgets effectively and report on these

D1 Knowledge and understanding of University structures, policy, practices and procedures.

Experience

E1 Significant project management experience in a similar or related role

E2 Demonstrable experience in the duties associated with this post (e.g. ability to produce formal documentation, interpret complex documents, present data, manage budgets and communicate effectively with stakeholders)

Desirable

F1 Experience of budget management using Agresso

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum, pro rata.

This post is part-time (14 hours per week), and open ended with funding available up until 28th February 2030.
