Pre‑Assessment Senior Nurseto join our dynamic Pre‑Assessment Unit. You will play a key part in ensuring patients are optimised and fully prepared for surgery, contributing to excellent surgical outcomes and a seamless patient journey.Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, our independent private Hospital has just been rated the number one in the country for care in the latest Bupa survey. Uniquely, all profits fund our onsite Hospice, St John’s.
What are the Responsibilities of the Pre‑Assessment Senior Nurse role?- Delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based pre‑assessment care
- Conduct comprehensive face‑to‑face and telephone assessments
- Analyse clinical findings and determine patient fitness for surgery
- Liaise with anaesthetists, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient care
- Perform triage of referrals and patient queries
- Review patient notes and ensure accurate, compliant documentation
- Attend bed meetings and contribute to safe patient flow
- Supervise and mentor junior staff and HCAs
- Support service development, audits, and quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure adherence to national guidelines, infection control standards, and organisational policies
This role requires excellent clinical judgement, strong communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously while supporting a wider team.
Am I the right person for the Pre‑Assessment Senior Nurse role?- A Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Experienced in pre‑assessment or perioperative care
- Confident in clinical assessment, decision‑making, and patient optimisation
- An effective communicator with strong organisational skills
- Motivated, flexible, and able to lead by example
- Competent in using clinical IT systems (experience with Lifebox is desirable)
- Able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment
