Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (internally known as IDVA)

Location: Newport, Isle of Wight 

Salary: £34,332pa    

Permanent, Full Time

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience of supporting women, men and children who have been subject to domestic violence and abuse

  • Experience of undertaking strengths, needs & risk assessments

  • Experience of undertaking DASH RIC

  • Experience of effective multi-agency and partnership working

  • Experience of person-centred service delivery and enabling client involvement

  • Knowledge of best practice in relation to domestic violence and abuse in refuge and community based settings

  • Skilled at IT including office packages such as excel, power point and word

The Role:

The role of the IDVA is to work closely with clients experiencing high risk domestic violence and abuse. They work from the point of crisis to provide high quality advocacy and support to those at the highest risk, and their children. The role involves multi-agency working and engaging with local partners and receiving referrals from and attending the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) and other victim focused meetings.

  • You will be used to working in a fast-paced environment.

  • You will be passionate about working with High risk victims of Domestic abuse

  • You will work alongside our clients as an equal partner and give advice and guidance at a level matching the person’s skills and strengths.

  • Developing positive working relationships with the local community and support agencies to create a network of support for your clients will be central to the work you do.

  • Able to effectively manage and prioritise own case load

  • Able to develop and present well structured cases in settings such as MARAC and criminal and civil proceedings

  • Able to self reflect and develop and improve practice through training and review

  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends

  • Able to work flexibility and deliver a 24/7 on call service with others
