The Vacancy

Parkinson’s UK drug discovery initiative.

Parkinson’s UK is the largest charitable funder of Parkinson’s research in Europe and we have invested over £130m in vital research that has delivered groundbreaking discoveries, new medications and better care. Our bold and innovative approach takes a venture philanthropy model to accelerate drug discovery and development. By working with leading researchers, biotech companies and investors, we can make sure promising ideas are translated into new treatments as quickly and effectively as possible.

We have grown into a global movement uniting scientists, supporters, investors and innovators worldwide. In 2022, we announced a long-term multi-million dollar strategic partnership with the US based charity, Parkinson’s Foundation, which has invested more than $400 million in Parkinson’s research and clinical care since 1957.

Where biotechs and pharma companies see big challenges to develop effective Parkinson’s drugs, Parkinson’s UK sees life-changing potential. Identifying this gap in the market, we carefully select projects with the greatest potential to transform life for people with Parkinson’s. We then work with partners to rapidly develop and test these approaches. To date, we have committed over £30 million to projects for new treatments, spanning early stage research to Phase III clinical.

Could you be an Independent Director for Parkinson’s Research Ventures?

Parkinson’s Research Ventures Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Parkinson’s UK charity.  It was established in 2018 as a vehicle through which many of the financing and IP transactions for the Parkinson's UK drug development funding programme would be pursued.

The Parkinson’s Research Ventures Board comprises senior industry professionals and experts with deep knowledge in the drug discovery and development process.

To complement our collective skillset and ensure we have the breadth and depth of thinking across our projects, we are looking to appoint up to two new Independent Directors - each of whom will bring both a senior executive track record in life sciences commercialisation and experience of living with Parkinson's.

Alongside fellow Directors, you will help guide the work of the Executive Team by:

• evaluating new research projects

• advising on investment decisions

• reviewing portfolio performance

• suggesting new investment opportunities
