We are looking for a dynamic and experienced HR Business Partner to play a key role in delivering impactful, people-focused solutions across the organisation.

  • Partnering closely with managers and teams, you will provide timely, expert HR guidance while driving continuous improvement in HR processes and practices.
  • Working alongside the Head of HR, you will contribute to shaping organisational development, supporting leadership capability, and guiding teams through change.
  • You will also take the lead on complex HR advisory matters, ensuring a high-quality, consistent service that supports both operational excellence and long-term business goals.

This is a hybrid role, combining time at our National Office in Lambeth (near Waterloo) with home working and occasional travel to services across England.

Key Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities

Management

  • Manage and motivate the HR Advisors and be a strong role model within the HR team to drive excellence and innovation
  • Work closely with the Head of HR to ensure we deliver our strategic people plan objectives, and proactively implement improvements and initiatives as required
  • Coach and develop the HR Advisors, ensuring they are multi-skilled to advise on a wide range of queries and policies and can provide cross cover for each other
  • Ensure that where work is shared between other team members and the HR Advisors, for example during the onboarding process and contract issuance, that there is a smooth process and exceptional employee experience

Employee Relations & Advice

  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers on the application of HR policies and practices, and identify and implement resources and training which will help managers across the charity to build confidence in managing their people well.
  • Ensure the HR Advisors provide expert and appropriate advice and guidance to line managers and staff on employment issues, policies and practices, including sickness absence, disciplinary, grievance, flexible working, probation and capability,
  • Provide professional advice and support on complex HR issues and casework, including performance management; disputes/grievances, disciplinary and appeal hearings and, where necessary, support for Employment Tribunals, in order to minimise organisational exposure and financial risk.
  • Manage complex employment relations issues including organisational change (restructuring, TUPE, redundancies etc)
  • Promote good employment relations practice balanced alongside appropriate risk and business needs.
  • Ensure that all relevant legislative and case law requirements are embedded in the HR team practices and in the advice provided to managers and others.
  • Work with the Head of HR to ensure policies are updated in line with legal changes, and develop our policies and ways of working to meet our strategic goals
  • Work closely with the Head of HR to ensure Together delivers a smooth and effective HR service
  • Support employee health and wellbeing through effective absence management processes, maximising the use of Occupational Health services, and promoting services and resources available to the workforce to support wellbeing

Records Management, Systems and Data

  • Ensure HR records management is effective and GDPR compliant in the team, including appropriate processes and principles for storage, retention and erasure and that these are adhered to.
  • Support the Head of HR with analysis of KPIs and people data such as sickness, turnover etc.

General Responsibilities

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

About you

You are a confident and strategic HR professional with a strong generalist background and experience operating at a senior advisory level. You bring:

  • A proven ability to build strong, trusted relationships with managers and employees
  • Excellent people management skills, with the ability to motivate, coach and develop others
  • A passion for creating inclusive, psychologically safe working environments
  • Strong expertise in employee relations and HR best practice
  • The ability to influence, challenge and support leaders through change and transformation
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach in fast-paced environments
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage at all organisational levels
  • The ability to use data and technology to drive insights and decision-making

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • No essential educational qualifications are required for this role, but you must be able to demonstrate strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • A credible and skilled HR professional with experience of leading a team to deliver high quality HR advisory services, consultation and change management
  • Demonstrable experience of developing effective HR processes, policies and resources and embedding them into an organisation
  • Up to date employment law knowledge with experience of applying this in complex situations, and a balanced appetite to risk
  • A good understanding of data protection and GDPR legislation and how this is implemented in the workplace
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, with experience of embedding these in HR policies and practices
  • Skilled in building relationships at all levels and a great understanding of stakeholder management, with a one-team approach to delivery
  • A positive leader, with strong team management skills
  • Great influencing and coaching skills, with a high level of emotional intelligence
  • A strategic approach, making decisions with a line of sight to future impact
  • Ability to work at pace and juggle competing priorities
  • A creative problem solver
  • Experienced in use of HR information systems

Desirable

  • CIPD qualified
  • Experience of managing TUPE
  • Knowledge of the not-for-profit and/or health & social care sector
  • Experience of using iTrent
