Finance Administrator
St Catharine’s College, founded in 1473, is one of the older Colleges in the University of Cambridge. There are approximately 460 undergraduates, 390 postgraduates and over 60 fellows. Most undergraduates, fellows and staff are housed or work on the main College site, in Trumpington Street in the City centre, where the Finance Department is based. The department comprises seven people, headed up by the Head of Finance.
Purpose of the role and main responsibilities:
- To be responsible for the administration of all aspects of the College’s student-based income and assist on other income areas.
- To generate accurate invoicing across our undergraduate and postgraduate student communities.
- To ensure invoices raised by the Conferencing Department are complete, accurate and appropriately recorded within the financial ledgers with the correct VAT rates applied.
- Reconcile and monitor the sales ledger of outstanding student debt and perform credit control in accordance with the College’s policies.
- To be the point of contact and provide timely responses and information to the student community, covering all aspects of student income in a proactive, efficient and customer focussed way.
- To record cash book transactions and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
Specific responsibilities:
- Student billings including generating invoices, maintaining student information in the College finance system and University data management systems, performing credit control for student debt, allocating College awards and bursaries to student ledger balances.
- Assisting with budgeting and Year End.
- Integration of sales invoices for external customers from Kinetic software into the financial ledgers ensuring correct posting, completeness of income and correct VAT treatment.
- Cash book postings
- Providing cover or other tasks as the College may from time to time require.

Employment arrangements
- This is a permanent appointment (subject to a 6 month probation period)
- Full time hours (37.5 hours per week)
- Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 FTE (depending on skills and experience)
