Working Hours & Location
This role follows 37 hours, Monday to Friday working pattern. This role supports managers and teams across the organisation functionally & geographically and will be largely based working from home. However, you will need to be within easy reach of one of our main hubs at Leeds, Liverpool, Burnley, Newark, Birmingham, Gloucester, Milton Keynes or London (Little Venice).
Role Overview
We are currently recruiting for a Corporate Governance Administrator to provide support to the Trust’s Head of Corporate Governance and the Senior Governance Assistant, in the day-to-day running of the Trust’s governance framework. This is a busy role working cross-functionally across the Trust and with key external governance stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities:
- Assisting with Trust Board events, booking travel and accommodation as required.
- Organising the AGM for governance stakeholders, including AGM meeting venue, travel and accommodation as required.
- Processing expense claims for relevant governance stakeholders and contacting them as and when required.
- Assisting in technology set up (e.g. sound and vision) for face to face and remote governance events.
- Responsibility for delivery and planning of onboarding, induction and off-boarding for governance stakeholders, including discussions with Regional Advisory Board and National Advisory Group Chairs to establish future membership needs.
- Assisting the building and distribution of on-line, confidential meeting packs using Trust and specialist third party software.
- Acting as the Trust’s governance information asset owner, with responsibility for organising and keeping up-to-date corporate governance information on internal Trust systems and external website, including meeting diaries, minutes and other materials.
- Providing support to the Senior Corporate Governance Assistant in day-to-day governance work such as maintenance of registers of interest, serious incident log, statutory filings and company books.
- Responsibility for managing the Community Interest Company (CIC) board processes, including minuting taking.
- Responsibility for supporting the Waterways Ombudsman Committee, including minute taking.
- Managing and updating governance stakeholders information and volunteering hours on the CRM database.
- Responsibility for Corporate Governance expenses, raising purchase orders, reconciling corporate credit card, submitting invoices for payment.
- Ensuring good governance practice by conducting bi-annual reviews of governance stakeholders information on the different portals such as, SugarCRM, teams/SharePoint, website and third party software.
- Management of governance pages on internet and intranet.

You’re organised, IT‑confident, and experienced in a busy office environment. With strong communication and attention to detail, you can manage deadlines and build positive working relationships.
You’re proactive, approachable, and committed to maintaining high standards, including health and safety, while supporting an effective governance function.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience of working in an office environment
- Good organisational skills and able to work under pressure to deadlines
- Strong literacy
- Excellent IT skills (e.g. Excel, Word).
- Comply with Canal & River Trust Health & Safety policy and defined standards, report incidents, accidents and near misses.
- Accessible, approachable and with an enthusiasm for fostering good working relationships.
- Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
