Your role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to help develop our Fulltime Coxswains and Resilience Coxswains / CAMs. This role will primarily focus on supporting the needs of the Full-time Crew Development Programme.

As a Coastal Lifeboat Trainer – FTC you will be fully involved with helping our crews to achieve and maintain the exacting standards required by the RNLI's competence framework for operational activities both afloat and ashore.

Under the direction of the Fulltime Crew Training Lead, you will be responsible for delivering a wide range of activities following a set program, designed to develop and equip our Coxswains with the skills required to carry out their roles. This will range from delivering seamanship training through to command preparation. As part of your role, you will be required to conduct pass outs in line with our Operational Competence Framework. Location of training will vary between coastal locations and the RNLI College.

Combined with this, you will also be involved in sea going passages of our fleet, building experience and confidence in our commanders in the operation of our ALB’s.

You will have proven experience as an ALB Coxswain, delivering practical Lifeboat Training with demonstrable maritime experience. This will be alongside your RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification.

As part of your role, you will be required to be the person in command during training activities with trainee coxswains. To be effective at this, you must have a high degree of situational awareness and the ability to communicate effectively and clearly.

This is not a 9-5 job. The successful candidate will be required to spend nights away from home and on occasions work through weekends. Flexibility over working patterns is essential but will be met with dedicated time off when required.
