Job description
Children and young people's violence advocate (Internally known as CYPVA)
Location: West Sussex
Salary: £31,146 FTE (Salary will be pro-rated for part time)
Permanent, Part Time (2 positions available)
PURPOSE:
The overall purpose of this role is to engage children and young people (CYP) at risk of harm due to domestic abuse, to carry out appropriate assessments, including DASH RIC and referral to MARAC and/or safeguarding when indicated. The skilled and experienced post holder will design, with CYP, one to one sessions as required, in community or accommodation-based settings and work with other agencies to provide a holistic and joined up response. Additionally, this role will engage with others in the community and in education provision, in order to raise awareness and develop and deliver education programmes. You will work with other agencies to develop safety plans, and specific face to face interventions for those experiencing intimate teen violence, including young instigators and survivors.
VALUES:
I will be trustworthy in all that I do, acting with integrity and treating people with dignity and respect
I will pursue excellence in my work
I will be person centred ensuring the service is designed around what matters to clients and that people are in the centre of the support they receive.
I will be can-do in my approach asking how I can achieve things rather than whether I can
I will be innovative in my approach and embrace new ways of working to ensure the service is always at the forefront of practice
WHAT I WILL DO WITH OTHERS:
I will co-produce full risk assessments with the CYP and ensure their needs and circumstances are reflected within all safety and support plans, carrying out property surveys and safety planning where identified
I hold a case load of CYP and manage my diary ensuring I meet their needs as individuals
I will advocate on behalf of CYP in a professional and respectful manner, encouraging and enabling CYP to have their own voice and develop self-resilience
I will work with colleagues, parents, children and other professionals to identify children and young people who are experiencing domestic abuse
I will work with others to carry out joint assessments and co-produce individual support plans with the people I work with
I will complete the young person’s DASH RIC and refer to MARAC when the young person is aged 16+
I will work with local schools’ programmes to deliver groups addressing healthy relationships and intimate teen violence
I will work with other agencies, professionals and forums to ensure their involvement and develop care pathways
I will co-produce programmes with CYP
I will work closely with colleagues in safeguarding so that children at risk due to domestic violence are identified and receive a support intervention
I will engage with local education providers to develop education placement protocols
