Assistant Store Manager – West Swindon

Do you have a passion for retail, customer service and making a difference in your local community? Join Prospect Hospice’s vibrant charity retail team as an Assistant Store Manager in our busy West Swindon charity shop.

Since 1980, we’ve been at the heart of our community, delivering expert, compassionate end-of-life care across Swindon, Marlborough and northeast Wiltshire. Our charity shops are more than just retail outlets — they are welcoming community hubs that raise vital funds to support local hospice care. With currently 17 shops and a fantastic team of staff and volunteers, we’re proud to support people when they need us most.

Hours: 22.5 hours per week (three days a week, which will include working weekends and some bank holidays)

What is the role?

We’re looking for someone proactive, customer-focused and community-minded to help drive sales, support volunteers and assist with the day-to-day running of our West Swindon shop. This is more than just a retail job – it’s an opportunity to build retail experience while making a real difference in your local community.

As Assistant Store Manager, you’ll:

  • Support the Store Manager in achieving sales targets and KPI performance
  • Deliver excellent customer service and act as a positive ambassador for Prospect Hospice
  • Help recruit, motivate, supervise and support a team of dedicated volunteers
  • Ensure attractive visual merchandising and stock displays to maximise sales and footfall
  • Promote Gift Aid donations and support effective stock processing
  • Assist with cash handling, shop security and maintaining high retail standards
  • Contribute ideas for promotions, displays and retail improvements
  • Help ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Fire Safety and Trading Standards regulations
  • Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming shop environment
  • Take responsibility for the store in the Store Manager’s absence, including occasional full-time cover

You will need proven retail experience, strong communication skills and the ability to work flexibly. A full driving licence and access to a car is essential, as you may be required to cover other stores across our catchment area when needed.

In return, you’ll be joining a supportive and friendly team within one of Swindon’s best-loved charities. If you enjoy retail and customer service and are looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine impact, we would love to hear from you.

  • Supportive induction, training and development
  • A values led, inclusive working environment
