The Faculty of Economics and Selwyn College seek to appoint an Abdey Isaac Newton Trust Academic Career Development Fellow and they are interested in excellent candidates with a proven record of research in any field of Economics, and a solid foundation to teach in core and optional courses including Quantitative Methods and Econometrics. The Fellowship is a new opportunity for exceptional scholars to contribute to both research and teaching within a Faculty and College environment, offering excellent preparation for subsequent academic appointments at Cambridge or elsewhere.

The Fellowship is offered through partnership between the Faculty of Economics and Selwyn College.

As an Abdey Isaac Newton Trust Academic Career Development Fellow, you will have an opportunity to:

  • enjoy protected time for an independent research project;

  • be embedded in a Faculty research and teaching culture;

  • teach in Colleges in small groups;

  • in some cases, act as a College Director of Studies (in years 2 & 3 of the Fellowship);

  • teach undergraduate and/or Masters students in a Faculty setting;

  • be mentored by Faculty members in academic skills (teaching, research, publication, grant applications, academic administration).

Eligible candidates will be at an early stage of their career with typically less than three years' experience post-PhD/equivalent, exclusive of any career breaks. You will either already hold a PhD, or have an equivalent qualification, or will have submitted your doctoral dissertation by the commencement of the Fellowship. You will be expected to propose a personal research project appropriate for the duration of the Fellowship.

You will be able to demonstrate an appetite for enquiry and an enthusiasm for teaching at all levels. You will have the ability to balance competing priorities across the full range of Fellowship activities and to build effective relationships with students, academic and professional staff across the collegiate University.

The Fellowship is offered through two co-terminous appointments; a Faculty appointment (including the research component) at 26 hours per week, coupled with a separate College appointment at 11 hours per week. The Fellowship is available for a fixed duration of 36 months, tenable across both co-terminous appointments. Fellows of Selwyn College are expected to participate in the social and intellectual life of the College through attending academic events, appearing at mealtimes, and contributing to teaching and research activities.
