JOB DESCRIPTION – 1:1 SUPPORT FOR A PUPIL WITH ASD & ADHD
ACCOUNTABLE TO: CLASS TEACHER & SENDCO
To support teachers in providing a quality education in a happy and secure environment.
• To support the individual pupil on a 1:1 basis in accessing their learning through organisation and comprehension of tasks as necessary.
• To support the individual pupil with their emotional regulation.
• To support the inclusion of SEND pupils across the school.
• To ensure the aims and policies of the school are implemented effectively.
To be an active member of the school staff and participate in special school events across all departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT:
• Support the teaching of an individual child in Year 5 with ASD and ADHD on a 1:1 basis as directed by the Class Teacher/SENDCo in line with the EHCP.
Support the child with emotional and pastoral matters, helping to manage anxiety and support social interaction.
Assist with the preparation of learning resources and explanation and completion of tasks.
• Record progress and achievements and provide feedback to the appropriate Teacher.
Encourage the pupil’s confidence, independence and resilience and help them develop these traits.
• Participate with the organisation and delivery of enrichment activities.
ORGANISATIONAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE:
Help the child prepare for the day’s lessons and forewarn of any changes to normal routine.
• Assist with administrative tasks as requested by teachers and SENDCo
Attend meetings as directed by the Senior Leadership Team.
• Accompany out of school visits as requested.
• Liaise with and feedback to parents and contribute to ongoing review of the EHCP.
WHOLE SCHOOL:
Ensure high standards of behaviour and that all individuals and equipment are treated with respect.
Be vigilant for any signs of safeguarding or bullying or unpleasantness and deal with it immediately, fairly and appropriately.
• Encourage children to be well organised and punctual and to gain confidence and independence.
• Ensure every child receives praise and encouragement on a frequent basis and that each child feels valued.
• Promote the aims and ethos of the School and be familiar with its policies, particularly the inclusion of children with SEND.
• Attend school functions as required.
GENERAL
• Establish effective, professional working relationships with colleagues, pupils and parents.
Be responsible for personal health and safety at work and inform the relevant staff of any health and safety matters in need of attention.
Be aware of safeguarding/child protection responsibilities and procedures in place at the school and bring any concerns to the attention of the Safeguarding Team.
● Have an awareness of ASD/ADHD and associated challenges and behaviours (or willingness to learn about and develop this).
Have an empathy with children with SEND and anxiety and a calm manner in supporting this.

Set a good example to the pupils through presentation, personal appearance and conduct.
Attend all INSET and CPD as requested by the Senior Leadership Team.
Comply with information and guidance in the Staff Handbook and all other school policies.
Handle confidential information with due care and maintain confidentiality both of the school’s affairs and those of its clients.
• Participate in the school’s Appraisal Cycle.
• Carry out any reasonable request of an SLT member.
Hours, attendance and holiday entitlement are as defined in the Learning Assistant’s Contract of Employment.
