As a Sales Assistant, you’ll play a key role in bringing this exciting vision to life. You’ll help create a vibrant, welcoming environment where every purchase supports vital care at Willen Hospice.
What you’ll do:
Support the Shop Manager and Assistant Manager in running a dynamic clearance shop
Sort, price, and merchandise stock using our simple £1, £3, £5 pricing system
Keep the shop looking fresh and inviting with regular stock drops
Welcome customers and donors with outstanding service
Assist volunteers, making sure they feel valued and engaged
Handle cash and tills accurately, following all procedures
Promote our mission and sustainability message in the local community
What you’ll need:
- Great customer service and communication skills
- Confidence handling money and stock in a busy retail environment
- A friendly, approachable attitude and team spirit
- Flexibility to work weekends and cover shifts as needed
- Retail experience is helpful, but full training will be given
- A passion for sustainability and supporting local communities

We offer round-the-clock, expert care to local patients with a life-limiting illness, both in their own homes and in our In-Patient Unit. We have a thriving Therapeutic & Wellbeing service providing counselling, physiotherapy, activity groups and more, and a specialist Lymphoedema service. What you’ll do:
Launch and manage this exciting new clearance shop from day one
Drive sales, Gift Aid, and round-up donations to maximise income for Willen Hospice
Create a vibrant, fast-moving retail environment with bold merchandising and clear pricing
Lead and inspire a team including an Assistant Manager, Sales Assistant, and volunteers
Organise rotas, manage stock flow, and deliver outstanding customer service
Monitor performance, control costs, and ensure compliance with all policies
Act as an ambassador for Willen Hospice and champion sustainability in the community
What we’re looking for:
- Retail management experience– charity retail experience is a bonus, but not essential. If you’ve worked in fast-paced retail environments, you’ll feel right at home.
- Strong commercial acumenwith a proven ability to hit financial targets and think creatively about driving sales in a high-turnover setting.
- Leadership that inspires– the ability to motivate and support a diverse team of staff and volunteers in a dynamic, ever-changing shop environment.
- Customer-first mindset– friendly, professional, and passionate about delivering an exceptional experience for every shopper.
- Experience with cash handling and financial processes– including banking, reporting, and compliance.
- Excellent organisational skills– able to manage stock flow, plan rotas, and keep operations running smoothly in a shop that refreshes weekly.
- Flexibility– willing to work weekends and provide occasional cover in other locations.
