Connecting the Creative Sidley project within the artistic ecology of Bexhill and Sidley, supporting the artist to root the delivery of this project into the growing creative community which Beeching Road Studios fosters in partnership with the De La Warr Pavilion and the wider Bexhill Cultural Network. Beeching Road Studios (where this artist will access a studio) acts as a stepping stone in this project, as it geographically sits between the De La Warr Pavilion and the creative community of Sidley. The artist will be invited to connect with networks and opportunities offered to the studio community, expanding the scope to develop their practice in this locality. We have been working with the current group of young people since April 2025.We are now in our second year of the project. This group currently engages a cohort of 10 young people, and we have regular session attendance of between 3–5 participants per session. The sessions run with a youth club style format and have an ‘open door ‘policy, in that young people are welcome to attend when they can. We know that sometimes 3 Creative Sidley, Youth-Led Residency Artist Job Description life means they can’t make a session, this is always okay. Recruitment of young people is ongoing and we continue to welcome new members to the group. About the Role The Youth-Led Residency Artist will play a key role in leading creative sessions that provide space for young people in Sidley (ages 11-16) to develop skills, build confidence, and take ownership of a community arts programme. Through creative socials, workshops, and public moments, the artist will foster a peer-led approach that strengthens community engagement. This residency also offers the artist an opportunity to develop their own socially engaged practice, allowing the creative process to shape the shared outcomes. The Youth-Led Residency Artist will also mentor the Emerging Creative Facilitator (18– 25), helping to embed transparent practice in socially engaged arts. This aspect of their role focuses on creating clear pathways into facilitation, strengthening the local facilitation workforce, and widening access to non-academic learning routes where formal provision is limited. This mentoring relationship is intentionally non-hierarchical. Rather than a student–teacher dynamic, it is a reciprocal space for creative exchange, reflective practice, and shared professional development between the artist and the Emerging Creative Facilitator (ECF). This is a youth-led project. The artist will work with a cohort of 8–12 young people from Sidley to co-design a programme of creative workshops and events shaped by their interests and ideas. The artist will be expected to adapt their skills and experience to support young people in developing creative confidence and evolving their own practices. While applicants should have a well-developed artistic practice, this role prioritises facilitation, responsiveness, and collaboration. The artist’s practice should be flexible and able to grow in dialogue with the young people throughout the residency. Artists with an established practice beyond facilitation are encouraged to apply. Your creative experience will be valued as a resource for broadening the young people’s horizons and supporting ambition, while all outcomes will be developed collaboratively rather than driven by the artist’s individual practice alone. This is an exciting opportunity to expand and challenge your practice through youth-led collaboration, with the Creative Sidley team offering ongoing support throughout the process. 4 Creative Sidley, Youth-Led Residency Artist Job Description Key Responsibilities • Work collaboratively with the Creative Sidley Project team and adhere to guidance, feedback, and approvals provided by the Project Manager and Head of Learning to ensure alignment with the project’s overall goals and vision. • Actively support the youth-led approach of the project, valuing young people’s voices, ideas, and leadership throughout all stages of the work. • Acknowledge and work sensitively with the neurodiversity present within the group, respecting the varied backgrounds, lived experiences and needs of the young people involved. These currently include creative writing, film, games, dance, movement, singing, making, craft, drawing, painting, poetry, music, theatre, and playful forms such as riddles and patterns. • A flexible and adaptive approach, responding to the needs of participants and the community.
