As an Employability Mentor based in Portsmouth, you’ll be responsible for guiding young people on our Employment programmes through the final stages of their courses. This mainly focuses on “in-placement” support for our Step Up for Work programme and Apprenticeship Placement but does involve some personal development such as job searching, interview prep and CV building.
The role:
- To identify work and supported employment-based goals and support individuals to gain the relevant skills and experience to achieve these goals
- To build substantial relationships with local social enterprises and employers with the aim of developing high quality work experience placements
- To support businesses with implementing reasonable adjustments to improve accessibility to work for people with learning disabilities
- To act as an Ambassador for the Trust at all placements, networking events and in the community
What are we looking for?
- At least 1 years’ experience of working in a coaching/mentoring role or working with a supported employment programme
- A good understanding of assessment and training tools
- Outstanding communication skills for people of all levels
- Must have the ability to inspire and motivate
- Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities (preferred but not essential
- Due to the location of the role, a UK driving licence with access to a motorised vehicle is essential

New Forest Day Opportunities Admin Assistant

We are looking for a highly organised, warm, and motivated Administrator to join our NFDO Day Service team. This is a key role that supports the smooth day‑to‑day running of the service by providing effective administrative support to the Day Service Manager and Deputy Manager.
Not only will you be the first point of contact for the service, but you will also support the admissions process for individuals new to NFDO, working closely with families, social workers and internal teams to ensure a welcoming and well‑coordinated experience. Although this is not a direct support role, you will have daily contact with people we support, so a caring, approachable, and professional manner is essential.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage telephone reception and respond to enquiries in a professional and friendly manner
- Support the admissions process for new individuals, ensuring all required documentation is completed and processed
- Liaise with families, social workers and internal teams regarding referrals, taster days and admissions
- Coordinate and track taster days for prospective attendees
- Maintain and update administrative systems and records in line with GDPR requirements
- Draft correspondence, respond to emails, scan documents and support general office administration
- Maintain NFDO cash-in and cash‑out spreadsheets in liaison with instructors and team leaders and submit monthly returns to Finance
- Order regular supplies for the Day Service
- Ensure monthly first aid box checks are completed by the team
- Attend meetings and produce accurate minutes
- Facilitate effective communication across the NFDO staff team and with other areas of the Trust
- Provide support to people with neurodiverse disabilities who attend the NFDO office with queries, as required
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role to support the smooth running of the service
About you:
- Previous experience in an office administration role
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills
- Strong communication and people skills, with a warm and professional telephone and face‑to‑face manner
- Confidence using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Ability to work independently using your own initiative, as well as collaboratively as part of a team

Regional People Partner – Portsmouth
Location: Based in Southsea, Portsmouth, with occasional travel to our Head Office in Minstead, New Forest
Hours: 25 hours per week
Salary: £28,000 to £30,000 pro rata

This newly created position is a key part of our ambitious growth plans and our commitment to delivering exceptional support for people with learning disabilities and neurodiverse needs.
As a vital member of our wider People & Culture Team, you’ll play a central role in shaping an outstanding employee experience across the Portsmouth region—from recruitment and onboarding, to wellbeing, coaching, and driving meaningful engagement initiatives.
Working in close partnership with the local management team, you will help ensure we have the right people, in the right roles, to deliver high‑quality support across a variety of services, including Day Opportunities, supported living, social enterprises, and community-based programmes.
What’s involved?
- Working alongside the local management team to determine recruitment needs, shortlist candidates, schedule interviews, and support inclusive, values‑led hiring decisions.
- Managing onboarding processes and ensuring all compliance requirements are fully met (RTW, referencing, DBS, etc.).
- Contributing to the group-wide People & Culture agenda and embedding the agreed strategy locally.
- Building strong, authentic relationships with employees, volunteers, and the local management team.
- Involving the people we support in recruitment and engagement activities.
- Supporting employee case management, addressing workplace concerns early, and escalating where appropriate.
What we need from you:
- You will likely be a HR generalist; willing to use your people skills to bring out the best in our teams.
- Relevant HR qualification (e.g. CIPD , Apprenticeship) or working towards one.
- A high level of confidentiality
- Strong administration experience
- Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines
- Tact and diplomacy with a polite and professional manner
- Experience in safer recruitment, ER case management and TUPE is desirable.
- Full UK driving licence + regular access to a car (site presence will be frequent).
- Right to Work in the UK.

Shift Leader – Furzey Gardens
Hours: 22.5 hours per week
Hourly rate: £12.55 per hour
Shifts available Monday to Sunday
Weekend availability required
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Shift Leader to deliver excellent customer service, support our team, and help provide training opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
What you’ll do
- Lead daily tearoom operations and ensure a warm, welcoming customer experience
- Support and guide staff, volunteers, and trainees
- Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and hygiene
- Handle cashing-up and basic financial procedures
- Keep the tearoom clean, safe, and well‑stocked
- Occasionally support our other venues (Hanger Farm Arts Café, Minstead Lodge)
What you’ll bring:
- Experience in catering or food retail
- Confident leadership and great customer service skills
- Ability to stay calm and organised during busy periods
- Basic admin/financial understanding
- Willingness to learn how to support people with learning disabilities
- A positive attitude and alignment with our charity’s values

Bank Café Assistant
Hourly rate: £12.25 per hour
Furzey Tearooms are located at Furzey Gardens in the New Forest
Furzey Gardens is a tranquil woodland garden nestled deep in the New Forest, full of rare and unusual plants gathered over past decades. Today’s visitors can enjoy strolling the pathways, discovering ‘magical’ fairy doors, visiting the thatched tearooms and much more.
Managed by Minstead Trust, the gardens are a place championing inclusion, supporting and providing work opportunities for people with a learning disability.
Overview of job role:
Our cafe assistants are responsible for delivering excellent customer service, providing a memorable experience to our visitors and ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are upheld at all times. Our Café Assistants will also be involved in helping to support people with learning disabilities to learn work-based tasks within the café.
Key responsibilities:
- To provide an outstanding service to our customers, serving a range of food and beverages, including the use of a barista-style coffee machine
- To be a positive team player, supporting apprentices with learning disabilities in the team to train on the job
- To ensure that strict food safety and hygiene regulations are followed, and to promote a safe working environment
- To support café operations, including re-stocking the café and maintaining cleaning standards throughout the venue
- To participate in occasional events within the hospitality function for the Trust
Personal specification:
- 1 Year of hospitality experience (Desirable but not essential)
- A high level of reliability
- Great, friendly customer service skills
- A calm, proactive manner
- Full valid driving licence (Desirable but not essential due to working location)
