As a Youth Worker, you will work out of Penrith engaging with young people classified as NEET.

  • To deliver face to face youth work to NEET young people
  • To identify the needs of young people and deliver personal development plans
  • To understand the ‘neighbourhood’ in which you work
  • To build and maintain positive relationships with young people
  • To actively encourage young to participate in the decision making process
  • Assessing (using various tools and techniques) individuals’ abilities, interests and achievements
  • Helping individuals to identify their needs by understanding their story
  • Assisting individuals to identify short and/or long term goals and support them to develop strategies to achieve their goals.
  • Assisting individuals to access appropriate information and interpret it in relation to themselves.
  • Assisting individuals in making realistic and suitable life choices.
  • Helping individuals to develop effective personal development skills
  • Delivering career-related learning
  • Developing Action Plans with individuals and supporting them to implement their personal action plan.
  • Plan and deliver high quality, high impact group work.
  • Deliver innovative and developmental activities
  • To link in with employers within the local travel to work area and promote, secure sustainable employment, apprenticeships, traineeships or work experience including Kickstart employment opportunities.
  • To encourage and motivate participants to engage with external organisations to address their personal barriers and challenges.
  • To work outwards and include support for young people with the geographical challenges with the Eden community, reducing social isolation, support integration and job, training opportunities.
  • To link into other existing DWP supported employability projects and provision operating in Eden by signposting candidates and to receive referrals as they move
  • along their employment journey.
  • To hold intervention/appointments at the Youth Hub to evaluate candidates to enable accurate signposting and/or support to suitable organisations.
  • To proactively engage with individuals within the Eden area through a programme of engagement/activity. Budgeting & Debt Advice Employer Recruitment group sessions, open drop in, mentoring, job and life skills training.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • Minimum GCSE grade C or 4/5 in Maths, English and a Computing related subject.
  • Relevant experience of working with young people
  • The ability to thrive in a busy and varied work environment
  • Experience of working with adults on a 1:1 basis or in groups;
  • Previous experience of delivering Careers Information, Advice and Guidance;
  • The ability to manage a caseload of individuals;
  • The ability to identify, establish and maintain effective working partnerships for the benefit of customers
  • The ability to keep accurate and up to date records with a good attention to detail. This includes data entry on electronic systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to respond to demanding pressures and to meet deadlines
  • An ability to work on own initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving#
