JOB VACANCIES – TYNE YOUTH COMPANY: YOUTH THEATRE FACILITATOR x3 (DRAMA / VOICE / DANCE)

Reports to: Head of Community Engagement & Participation (CE&P)
Period of Appointment: Saturday mornings 10.00am-12.30pm from Sept 2026-July 2027 with breaks for holidays.
Venue: Tyne Theatre & Opera House, Central Newcastle
Salary: £100.00 per week to include planning and delivery of weekly sessions and attendance at termly planning/evaluation meetings (online or in person). Additional payments will be made for performance days. Members of the Artistic Team may not be required for every Saturday dependant on agreed schedule.

Purpose of Role

To teach sessions for Tyne Youth Company during the 2026-2027 season.

Our mission is to inspire and equip our members with a broad understanding of the theatre world, helping them discover their unique passions. TYC is a supportive and dynamic space where young performers ages 7-17 are able to grow, learn and shine. We strive to make performing arts accessible to all, ensuring opportunities for people of all backgrounds to participate. Through accessible events and community engagement, TYC contributes to Newcastle’s cultural growth, revitalising the West End and supporting the Theatre’s long-term legacy.

Members of the TYC Artistic Team will work together to produce a teaching schedule that offers high-quality engagement across the academic year. The core engagement will be in drama, singing and dance, taught weekly on rotation. This year, members of TYC will perform as part of Annie in February 2027, in collaboration with our in-house amateur dramatic company, Tyne Theatre Productions.

Tyne Youth Company sits under Tyne Theatre & Opera House Community Engagement & Participation (CE&P).

Role & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work with colleagues to produce a teaching schedule that offers high-quality engagement across the year.
  • To deliver purposeful, engaging sessions for the members of TYC in key theatre disciplines.
  • To rehearse material for the annual production, Gala performance and any additional city-wide opportunities as agreed with the Head of Community Engagement & Participation
  • To provide input for the creative and technical aspects of the above when required, including attendance at Production meetings
  • To participate in planning and evaluation meetings at TTOH when required
  • To act as an ambassador for the youth company in the North East, nurturing relationships and communicating opportunities.
  • To ensure that session registers are kept
  • To provide information for CE&P advisory group meetings when requested.
  • To share in the TTOH’s commitment to protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults by being fully compliant with the venue’s Safeguarding Policies, in addition to all other relevant venue policies

Role Requirements:

  • At least 2 years professional, specialised experience in drama/voice or dance within a youth theatre or YP community setting
  • Experience in facilitating engaging, inclusive and creative sessions
  • Experience in working with Young People towards a production
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with YP, encouraging confidence and self-expression
  • Understanding of the management skills required for teaching ages 7-17
  • Current Enhanced DBS
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • A consistently professional attitude
  • Vision and enthusiasm for, and alignment with, TYC’s mission
