About St Nicholas Church, Sevenoaks

St Nicholas is a vibrant, conservative evangelical Anglican church in

Sevenoaks, Kent. We seek to honour God and make disciples of Jesus and

believe that the Bible and prayer are essential to these tasks.

There are five Sunday services across four congregations, with an average

overall attendance of around 500 adults and 140 children, making youth and

children’s work a significant and strategic ministry for the church. We also

run many community and outreach ministries during the week. We have an

experienced staff team of 15 full and part-time employees.

Our Vision

Our vision is to know Jesus and make him known locally and globally. We

prayerfully and lovingly proclaim him in order to Reach, Nurture, Equip, and

Send, for his glory. In line with our vision, our heart is to reach the next

generation in Sevenoaks.

Role Purpose

Our youth work is vibrant and growing, with exciting opportunities to deepen

discipleship among the young people who come on Sundays and to our

midweek groups. You would be working alongside our part-time female

Youth Minister in ministry to young people aged 11–18+ across all four

congregations.

The Role

As Youth Minister, you will:

● Plan and deliver the mid-week and Sunday youth programmes for

Centrepoint (years 6–9) and Contact (years 10–13) alongside our female

Youth Minister and youth team, ensuring high-quality, biblically

faithful content.

● Take particular responsibility for personal pastoral ministry and

discipleship among the teenage boys.

● Work collaboratively with the female Youth Minister and the

Congregational Pastors to develop and implement a Christ-centred

strategy for youth ministry across all four congregations.

● Recruit, train, and develop volunteer teams, building a culture of

shared leadership.

● Partner with parents to encourage ownership of the youth work and

equip them to disciple their children.

● Organise and lead both St Nicholas youth summer camps, including

the teaching programme.

● Contribute to the church’s preaching programme, with a particular

focus on the evening service.

● Teach and communicate the Bible clearly and engagingly to young

people in a range of settings.

Who We’re Looking For

● You will be a committed and growing Christian with a clear

conservative evangelical conviction and a personal discipline of prayer

and Bible study. Beyond that, we are looking for someone who:

● Has a genuine heart for the gospel and a passion to see young people

come to faith in Jesus and grow as his disciples.

● Can preach and teach the Bible clearly, faithfully, and engagingly in

both formal and informal settings.

● Has theological training (e.g. through a theological college or the

Cornhill Ministry Training Course) or a willingness to pursue further

theological study.

● Understands the pastoral issues and apologetics questions that are

relevant to today’s teenagers.

● Has strong relational skills and the ability to build trust with young

people, parents, volunteers, and colleagues.

● Can recruit, train, and motivate volunteer teams.

● Is well-organised, with the ability to plan ahead, and comfortable

working as part of a team.

● Previous experience in church-based youth ministry, experience of

leading residential camps, and familiarity with the Church of England
context would all be advantageous, though not essential.

What We Offer

● A full-time, permanent role.

● Salary equivalent to the Curate Clergy Stipend (Diocese of Rochester),

plus non-contributory pension contribution.

● Accommodation provided.

● Generous holiday provision.

● A supportive, experienced staff team and the opportunity to grow as a

Bible teacher and pastor.

Safeguarding

culture for children, young people, and vulnerable adults. The successful

candidate will be required to have an enhanced DBS check (renewed every

three years), provide two satisfactory references, and complete the required

safeguarding courses on the Church of England safeguarding portal.

Occupational Requirement

There is a genuine occupational requirement for this post to be held by a

male practising Christian, in accordance with Schedule 9, Part 1 of the

Equality Act 2010. A key element of the role involves providing same-sex

pastoral care and discipleship to teenage boys, working alongside a female

Youth Minister who provides equivalent care for the girls.
