Cardiff & Vales Substance Use Services provide a service to people who use drugs or alcohol, their families, and communities.This will include early intervention, engaging and assessing service users, needle exchange, brief interventions, outreach, training, case management, health promotion and harm reduction initiatives and recovery and aftercare services. The Young Persons & Young Adults service forms part of Barod’s wider Integrated Service for substance use across Cardiff & Vale
- To provide face to face therapeutic intervention and support to young people & young adults seeking help to tackle their drug and alcohol use, using the range of models and methods that have been agreed for use within the Cardiff Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT)

- To conduct triage, risk and comprehensive assessments in order to assess individual needs, identify goals, create a support package and to review the programme and outcomes on a regular basis within the MDT setting.
- Carry a caseload of young people and young adults. The post holder would work with them to build resilience and recovery capital until the time is right for them to successfully transit into adult services or exit the services.
- To assist in the development and delivery of group-work and structured interventions and to increase links to other supportive services.
- To signpost service users on to other relevant agencies and empower individuals to enable them to help themselves through informed choice and decision making
- To maintain appropriate written client records and case notes
- To ensure consultation and participation with service users in all aspects of their treatment journey
- To stay up to date with all policies and best practice guidelines regarding substance use whilst building relationships with professionals and families within communities
- Share resources and increase knowledge within other services thus increasing appropriate referrals into other services
- Develop targeted safeguarding interventions with other key partners and families within the community.
- To maintain a positive profile of Barod and the service provided through appropriate networking, liaison and multi agency working and to work in a manner which complements and dovetails with existing statutory and voluntary sector provision.
- To adhere to all Barod policies and procedures.
- To ensure the undertaking of appropriate monitoring, review and evaluation procedures
- To support and supervise volunteers assisting in the delivery of the service
- To co-operate with requests from Barod management and administration
- To take up Barods arrangements for support and supervision and participate in all relevant internal meetings
- To undertake other reasonable duties as requested, but which may not be specified within the job description
Ideally all these requirements must be met by the candidate on appointment.However, in certain circumstances a candidate may be appointed who does not meet a particular requirement. This is providing that the shortfall can be made good in a reasonable time, and the candidate brings other skills, knowledge or experience which are valuable to the role and the Organisation.
At least 12 months experience of working with young people/young adults
Experience of liaison and networking with a cross section of agencies and individuals.
Awareness of other services available to substance/alcohol users.
Relevant qualifications
Knowledge of the local areas and communities
Experience of delivering training and/or group-work
Assessment, & support skills.
Ability to relate to young people/young adults and their families
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Good time management/organisational/administrative skills.
The ability to drive and access to personal mode of transport
Previous experience of working within the substance use sector or similar field.
Understanding of substance use treatment pathways.
Welsh language speaker.
Understanding/knowledge of ACEs and their impact.
Experience of a trauma-informed approach.
