Hours: 32.5 hours per week

Salary: £28,969 per annum (depending on experience)

Actual Salary for 32.5 hours, £25,446

Contract status: Fixed Term Until 31st May 2027 (with potential to extend for a further 2 years until 31st May 2029, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability)

Start Date: Immediate Start

Holiday entitlement: 32 days annual leave + public bank holidays

(pro rata for part time posts)

Pension: Matching 5% employer’s contribution

Location: Barnsley - Hybrid Working Available

We are excited to announce that we are seeking to recruit a Welfare Benefits Caseworker to join our thriving charity at Citizens Advice Barnsley. Our service is busy, dynamic and client focused, with a long track record of delivering high quality advice.

We are looking for someone to provide advice to cancer patients and their families to help them navigate complex issues they cannot manage alone. You’ll be providing case work level support including Income Maximisation and Benefit Assessments, Form Filling, Grant Applications, and Advocacy & Appeals. The role may also include Tribunal preparation and legal representation.

Essential skills include:

  • Knowledge and experience of delivering welfare benefits advice, related to disability and ill health.

  • High degree of empathy, emotional resilience, and sensitivity toward the unique needs of cancer patients.

  • Good IT and communication skills.

  • Ability to work with other organisations and agencies to establish good working relationships.

  • Understanding of relevant legislation and social policy issues.
