This post
Fruitmarket Café waiting staff are involved in the life of the Gallery as part of a staff team of 51.
The waiting staff will deliver a high standard of customer experience for café visitors, Fruitmarket’s events audiences, and corporate clients and are key ambassadors for Fruitmarket’s values.
Waiting Staff should be available to work during opening hours, including weekends and holidays as well as working during the events which may take place outwith regular opening hours.
Key work areas
Customer Service
• Greet customers as they arrive and show them to their table
• Accurately take food and drinks orders
Introduce menu and make recommendations
• Work with kitchen staff to get food orders out quickly
Check customers are happy with their food and drink
Pass on any feedback or complaints to the relevant staff member
Deliver bills and clear tables efficiently
Clear and turn tables quickly
Food & Beverage
• Prepare hot and cold drinks
• Answer questions about menu items, ingredients and pricing
Display cakes and pastries and plate these for customers
• Pass food orders accurately to kitchen
• Ensure alcohol serving restrictions are observed at all times
Operational
• Use electronic till computer system to take payment accurately
Maintain excellent standards of hygiene, complying with all relevant health and safety regulations
• Perform daily cleaning duties in the café areas
General
• Provide excellent care to Fruitmarket colleagues and their guests
• Uphold the Fruitmarket’s policies, including the Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion plan
Be informed about the Fruitmarket’s programme of exhibitions and activities and be able to provide basic information to café visitors
• Take part in Fruitmarket all staff training sessions

• Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure
• Good time-keeping
• Previous waiting experience an advantage
• Coffee training would be an advantage
Hours of work
Variable hours. Work outwith regular working hours may be required in preparation for, and during, events.
