Why we want you
At The Ramblers, we believe everyone should have the chance to enjoy the outdoors. Our volunteers make that happen every day, leading walks, protecting paths, and bringing people together in communities across the UK.
We are introducing a Volunteer User group, of around 8 to 12 individuals with a range of different skills and experiences, to make sure volunteers have a strong voice in how we grow and improve. As we look to the future, we want to listen closely to volunteers’ experiences and ideas. This new role will play an important part in shaping and supporting our work to improve the volunteer experience, helping us build an offer that works better for everyone.
We welcome applications from all volunteers, whatever your role, background, or length of service. Bringing together a mix of experiences and perspectives will help us have better conversations and make sure we reflect the needs of our whole volunteering community.
What you will be doing
As a contributor to the Step up Step Out you will play a key role in shaping the future of volunteering at the Ramblers. You will:
· Participate in Step Up Step Out programme test and learn activities
· Review insights from learning
· Help shape experience-based recommendations
· Collaborate with others on the group to develop volunteer experience
· Represent the volunteer community through your lived experience ensuring that we build a volunteer experience that is appropriate and builds on current successes
· Explore what’s working and what needs improvement in volunteer experience and identify ways this can inform the volunteer experience moving forwards
· Help test and refine ideas in real-world settings
· Support inclusive and practical proposals that enhance volunteering across the organisation
· Collaborating with a wide range of people who come from different backgrounds and have different experiences.
We expect the Volunteer User Group to meet monthly, with some initial start up meetings, but this may vary subject to programme deliverables.
The skills you’ll need
We’re looking for individuals who bring curiosity, insight, and commitment to improving the volunteer experience. You should have:
· A collaborative mindset and openness to diverse perspectives
· Empathy and a strong connection to the Ramblers’ mission
· Experience in volunteering, volunteer management, or relevant expertise
· Willingness to engage in reflective, inclusive, and practical discussions
· Commitment to our values: inclusive, inspiring, empowering, and responsible
