Purpose of the Role

The Volunteer Coordinator will lead the recruitment, training, development and supervision of volunteers supporting RecRock’s community-based music, digital and creative activities. The role will build a strong, inclusive volunteer community where people gain skills, confidence and progression opportunities through meaningful creative action.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Recruitment & Induction
• Recruit volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, including young people, adults, and those seeking skills development or community connection.
• Provide a clear induction covering RecRock values, safeguarding, DBS expectations, and volunteer responsibilities.
• Link new volunteers into local support networks such as GAVO, Volunteering Wales, and other community agencies.

Training, Development & Support
• Deliver and coordinate training in administration, digital media, event planning, safeguarding awareness, and creative skills.
• Ensure all volunteers complete appropriate DBS checks, safeguarding training, and health & safety briefings.
• Support volunteers to access external training, including tutor development, peer mentoring, and accredited opportunities where available.
• Track volunteer development and progression for project reporting and evaluation.

Volunteer Experience & Progression
• Facilitate a volunteer committee to shape project direction, share ideas, and provide feedback.
• Encourage volunteer-led activity, supporting people to take on leadership roles at events, workshops and community projects.
• Promote progression routes into employment, education, or further volunteering.
• Introduce volunteers to timebanking and reward schemes (e.g., recognition events, certificates, skills portfolios, community credits).

Operational Responsibilities
• Maintain accurate volunteer records, rotas and registers.
• Support volunteers to create newsletters, promotional materials and evaluation reports.
• Promote opportunities to support events such as open mics, showcases and community celebrations.
• Work closely with the Project Manager and wider RecRock team to align volunteer roles with project needs.

Person Specification 

Essential
• Experience working with volunteers or coordinating community groups.
• Strong organisational and people management skills.
• Good working knowledge of digital tools (social media, newsletters, photography, video etc).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience supporting people with additional needs or from underrepresented backgrounds.
• Commitment to inclusive, non-judgmental, participant-led practice.
• Understanding of safeguarding, boundaries and confidentiality.

Desirable
• Welsh language skills.
• Experience working with local voluntary sector partners (e.g., GAVO, community councils, youth services).
• Knowledge of timebanking, reward schemes or volunteer recognition frameworks.
