Purpose of Role & Service
The Hospice café provides refreshments and homemade baked goods for patients, visitors, staff, volunteers, and special events. The Volunteer Cake Maker role supports the catering team by preparing and decorating cakes and other sweet treats that enhance the café offering and contribute to a welcoming environment. The role helps ensure baked goods are produced to a high standard while maintaining excellent food hygiene and safety practices.
Key Activities
Preparing and baking cakes, traybakes, cupcakes, and other sweet treats
• Decorating and presenting baked goods to a high standard
• Following agreed recipes and portion guidelines where required
• Ensuring all ingredients are stored and handled safely
• Labelling baked goods with ingredient and allergen information where necessary
• Assisting with the packaging and presentation of cakes for sale or events
• Complying with food hygiene and safety requirements
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness within the kitchen and baking areas
• Reporting all near misses, accidents, and incidents
• Supporting fundraising events through the provision of baked goods when required
Organisational Responsibilities
To seek help and support when needed
Participate in mandatory training and attend any courses that may be relevant
Attend volunteer meetings and sessions whenever possible
To act within your scope of your volunteering role at all times
To respect at all times confidentiality of information covering patients, staff and volunteers
