JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:

Voluntary Trustee Safeguarding Lead

Responsible for:

Primary responsibility for safeguarding within the charity; and (with the rest of the board members) for taking a leadership role in actively championing safeguarding good practice.

Supporting and working closely with the designated safeguarding lead and safeguarding officers in their responsibilities for the charity.

Job Purpose:

To take strategic leadership responsibility for the charity’s safeguarding arrangements and be the accountable person for reporting back to the rest if the Board on safeguarding matters.

Understanding Governance:

Governance refers to the systems and processes that are concerned with ensuring the overall direction, effectiveness, spervision and accountability of the charity. As the charity is an independent legal entity, it is the Board who have ultimate decision making within the charity and who are collectively responsible for the delivery of it’s purposes.

Therefore it is the Board who are the responsible and accountable body for the long-term direction and control of the charity - but the Board will delegate authority to the management team for the day to day operation of the charity.

Understanding Management:

The management team are the charity’s employees (and as such not members of the Board) who have received the delegated authority from the Board to take responsibility for the management and running of charity’s business. Through this delegated authority, the management team will implement the charity’s strategic aims and objectives.

Essential Qualities of Role Holder

Possess a valid DBS Certificate

Excellent communication skills

Excellent written skills

Safeguarding training and previous experience in safeguarding arrangements

Role Responsibilites

To manage and lead on the Board’s Safeguarding Agenda at each Board meeting and ensure it includes the appropriate strategic and operational matters in relation to safesuarding.

To report to the Board on any progess of safeguarding induction and coaching since the last meeting.

To update the Board on any progress of safeguarding induction and coaching since the last meeting.

To provide support and input to the safeguarding team with the development/updates or safeguarding polices, procedures and processes.

To provide support and input on all safeguarding on all safesuarding risk assessments against existing and new projects and programmes.

To define the safeguarding stategy and proprites between Board meetings.

To ensure adequate budget is assigned to meet the charity’s safeguarding requirements.

To have a high level of safeguarding training and knowledge commensurate with the strategic responsibilities of the role.

To stay up to date with changes in legislation and best practice related to safeguarding.

To undertake all relevant safeguarding training as required for the role.

To be familiar with the charity’s safeguarding handbook.

Support with annual safeguarding review.

Attend quarterly meetings with safeguarding team.

Critically review and challenge evidence, showing curiosity, fair judgement, and confidence in ensuring that reports accurately reflect findings.
