Video Editor (9-Month Part-Time Contract)
We’re looking for a part time (2.5 days per week) Video Editor to produce high-performing, social-first video content for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn and other digital platforms. Sitting within the Marketing team, this role plays an important part in supporting Somerset House’s audience growth, brand visibility and campaign performance through engaging and platform-native video editing.
Working closely with the Videographer and Senior Social Media Manager, you’ll be responsible for editing and adapting a wide variety of video content that brings Somerset House’s cultural programme, creative community and public spaces to life for digital audiences.
This role is focused on editing, optimisation and adaptation of existing footage and creative assets, transforming long-form and campaign content into compelling short-form storytelling tailored to different platforms, audiences and objectives. You’ll have a strong understanding of social media behaviours, platform trends and audience engagement, using editing techniques to maximise performance and reach across organic and paid channels.
You’ll be highly skilled in video editing, colour grading, motion graphics, captioning and text animation, with a strong eye for pacing, storytelling and social-first creative. You will be expected to work quickly and efficiently across multiple campaigns and priorities, balancing reactive content needs with polished campaign delivery in a fast-paced creative environment.
What we are looking for
Video Editing
- Edit high-performing short-form video and photo content for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn and Google platforms, using platform best practice, audience insights and performance data to optimise reach, engagement and retention.
- Edit engaging social-first content across a range of formats including interviews, event highlights, behind-the-scenes content, artist features, trailers, and campaign cutdowns.
- Develop and deliver a consistent pipeline of both lo-fi and hi-fi edited content, balancing reactive social content with polished campaign assets.
- Apply platform-native editing techniques including captioning, motion graphics, transitions, trending audio, text overlays, hooks and pacing strategies to maximise discoverability and engagement.
- Edit content quickly and efficiently to support fast-paced publishing schedules, campaign rollouts and live event coverage.
Content Adaptation & Optimisation
- Adapt and version existing video content for multiple social platforms, formats and aspect ratios while maintaining strong creative quality and brand consistency.
- Rework longer-form content into engaging short-form edits optimised for social media audiences and platform performance.
- Optimise content for platform-specific audience behaviours, technical requirements and engagement trends.
- Produce multiple edit variations, cutdowns and reformats tailored to different audiences, channels and campaign objectives.
- Use performance insights and reporting to inform future editing approaches, storytelling techniques and content formats.
Content Management & Workflow
- Organise, manage and archive video, photography and project assets in line with team workflows, naming conventions and file management processes.
- Maintain efficient editing workflows and project management across multiple concurrent campaigns, priorities and deadlines.

Ensure all exported assets meet technical specifications and delivery requirements across social, digital and paid media channels.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the Videographer to ensure edited content aligns with wider campaign objectives, channel strategies and the Somerset House editorial calendar.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Creative Design, Programming, Press and Visitor Experience teams to support exhibitions, campaigns, events and brand storytelling.
- Stay up to date with emerging social media trends, creator formats, editing styles, platform updates and audience behaviours, proactively bringing new ideas into the editing approach and content strategy.
- Contribute creative ideas during campaign planning and content discussions, bringing a strong understanding of social-first storytelling and audience engagement.
- Support agile and collaborative ways of working across multiple projects, priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced cultural environment.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Experience:
- Proven portfolio of high-performing social-first and audience-focused video content, across short-form video for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts
- Experience creating and versioning paid media assets for Meta, TikTok, YouTube, Google and other advertising platforms.
- Proven ability to independently manage video editing projects from concept and asset organisation through to final export and delivery
- Experience working in fast-paced creative, cultural or content-led environments
Skills:
- Strong understanding of platform algorithms, audience behaviours and social media best practice.
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Proficiency in creating engaging on-screen text, motion graphics and branded visual elements for social-first video content.
- Skilled use of sound and music in editing, with a strong sense of pacing, tone and emotional impact across cuts
- Strong editorial judgement and storytelling instinct, shaping narrative, pacing and structure for maximum impact across social platforms, actively exploring multiple creative directions (hooks, pacing, narrative angles) for different channels
- Fast output at a high standard, consistently delivering polished, platform-leading work under tight deadlines
- Rigorous quality control, including final checks for subtitles, timing, framing, spelling, platform specs and technical accuracy
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and deliver content at speed.
- Able to receive, interpret and implement feedback quickly, with minimal revision cycles
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Disciplined file hygiene and version control across fast-moving projects
