Job Description
We are Shaftesbury, the national disability charity that supports more than 4,000 children, young people and adults with a disability every year. This is at the heart of all we do.
Our vision, ‘all together better for disability’, is about working alongside the people we support so they can participate, contribute and be valued for who they are. Our work is spearheaded by 1,600+ dedicated staff and volunteers who deliver a wide range of disability care, special education and rehabilitation services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
At Shaftesbury, our rich 180-year history began with Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 7th Earl of Shaftesbury ("the Poor Man’s Earl”). Dedicating his life to social reforms, our charity began with his role as President of the Ragged School Union (1844).
Lord Shaftesbury’s Christian philanthropy drives our corporate values. We are open, enabling, inclusive and courageous. We welcome people from all faiths and none.
We are always looking for new Trustees to help shape our future direction. We seek several areas of expertise including, but not limited to:
· Previous experience of safeguarding at the highest of levels
· Previous experience of special educational needs within a school or college setting
· Finance/audit/accounting experience at the highest of levels
· All round business and commercial acumen drawn from executive management or Board-level oversight in the private sector
We actively and warmly encourage applications therefore from a broad and deep range of backgrounds and experiences. The time commitment for the trustee role is a minimum of 16 days per annum. Our Board meetings take place in central London.
If you are interested in applying to become a trustee at Shaftesbury, please submit your CV, along with a covering letter expressing your interest to governance@shaftesburygroup.org
We are committed to ensuring everyone can access our website and application processes. This includes people with sight loss, hearing, mobility and cognitive impairments. Should you require access to these documents in alternative formats, please contact: communications@shaftesburygroup.org
