Therapy Technician

This unique post includes working with babies, children, young adults (BCYA) and their families.
You will have the opportunity to work closely with the therapists and wider care team across Naomi House and Jack’s place, assisting or independently carrying out therapeutic activities either 1:1 or in groups. This includes positioning support, physiotherapy programmes, promoting and practising functional tasks, supporting with activity inclusion and hydrotherapy sessions. This role is largely practical however also includes assisting with admin/data and other tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, fun, caring and diligent person with a desire to work with BCYA and their families across Naomi House and Jack’s Place, to help with therapeutic interventions and rehabilitation.
- Supporting the qualified therapists with therapy treatment of a wide range of BCYA
- Supporting BCYA and their families who are in Naomi house or Jack’s Place for respite, day service, symptom management or end of life care admissions
- Liaising with community services such as wheelchair services, community therapy services and schools
- Managing a simple caseload of your own
In more detail:
- Involvement in treating, monitoring and making minor alterations to the treatment of BCYA. This includes considering their physical, emotional, developmental, cognitive and social needs.
- Joint sessions with the therapy staff, plus managing an independent caseload both in-house and in outpatients style setting.
- Building a good rapport with the BCYA and families to encourage participation and offer support.
- Working with BCYA with a wide range of presenting conditions including neuromuscular, respiratory, neurological, and developmental needs.
- Working in different environments, including the hydrotherapy pool, Naomi House, Jack’s place and where appropriate in the community.
- Admin tasks, which includes using IT systems for booking appointments and data recording.

Skills and Experience Required:
For this specific role we need the following skills and/or experience:
- Proven experience of working with BCYA who have a variety of physical and cognitive impairments.
- Good communication skills: to enable close working relationships and be able to adapt their communication to meet the BCYA’s, family, and MDT needs.
- Be physically fit and able to work with BCYA with complex needs using different equipment and working in different positions and environments. This includes working on the floor, being water-confident in the hydrotherapy pool and therapeutically handling patients.
- Basic IT skills for completion of data bases, electronic patient records, electronic booking, and outcoming systems.
- Able to work under pressure, problem solve and prioritise tasks in an ever-changing workload
- Aware of professional boundaries and limitation of job role, identify changes in clinical presentation and be able to escalate concerns appropriately.
- Experience working in challenging and emotive situations with active coping strategies and resilience.
- It is desirable if you have a Level 4 qualification in a Health and social care, or BCYA related subject, combined with experience working with BCYA.

The salary range: £29,559 - £31,713 per annum (band 4 equivalent). (pro rata for part-time working).
