Technical Lead - EPD

Help shape the future of sustainable construction

Are you passionate about sustainability and driven by the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the built environment? As a Technical Lead - EPD at BRE, you'll play a key role in helping manufacturers understand, measure and improve the environmental impact of their products. This is an opportunity to influence industry standards, work with leading organisations across Europe, and contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable construction sector.

About the role

BRE is one of Europe's leading Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) programme operators, supporting the construction industry with trusted sustainability data and verification services. As Technical Lead - EPD, you'll be at the heart of this work, leading the delivery of complex EPD verification projects, supporting the ongoing development of BRE's certification schemes, and helping shape the future direction of EPD standards and best practice.

Working closely with customers, industry stakeholders, technical experts and internal teams, you'll combine technical expertise with leadership and strategic insight to ensure BRE continues to deliver robust, credible and innovative sustainability solutions. You'll also represent BRE within industry bodies and technical working groups, helping influence the wider sustainability agenda.

This home-based role includes regular travel to customer and stakeholder sites across the UK and Europe, with occasional overnight stays.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver complex EPD verification projects to agreed quality, technical and commercial objectives.

  • Verify and oversee the publication of Environmental Product Declarations in accordance with relevant standards and scheme requirements.

  • Support the development and maintenance of BRE's Product Category Rules (PCRs) and associated technical documentation.

  • Represent BRE within ECO Platform and relevant industry technical working groups.

  • Provide technical expertise to support the development of BRE's sustainable products services and strategy.

  • Mentor, support and develop team members, including line management responsibility for two colleagues.

  • Build strong relationships with customers and stakeholders, ensuring a high-quality service experience.

  • Contribute to the commercial success of the team through effective project delivery and management.

  • Support innovation and the development of digital sustainability tools and platforms.

  • Work collaboratively with sales, marketing and technical teams to grow awareness and adoption of BRE's sustainability services.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced sustainability professional with a strong background in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), who combines technical expertise with excellent stakeholder management skills.

You'll ideally have:

  • At least 3 years' experience delivering LCA projects in line with recognised international standards.

  • At least 3 years' experience conducting or managing EPD verification activities.

  • A degree in a relevant STEM subject, or equivalent professional experience within LCA, sustainability verification or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of ISO, CEN and construction-sector standards relating to LCA and EPDs.

  • Experience using LCA modelling software, verification tools and data analysis platforms.

  • A solid understanding of product certification and verification schemes within the construction industry.

  • Knowledge of wider sustainability frameworks and initiatives, including GHG Protocol, Science Based Targets and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide practical solutions.

  • Proven project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with a customer-focused approach.

  • Experience mentoring or leading others and supporting team development.

  • A genuine passion for sustainability and creating positive environmental impact.

  • Willingness to travel across the UK and Europe as required.
