We are looking for a Technical Claims Specialist (Marine Leisure) to join Ecclesiastical on a 3-6 month contract.
Working hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Duration: 3-6 month contract
Location: Hybrid with travel to Gloucester, Manchester or London
About the role

In this role you will lead strategic claims oversight, technical excellence, and end‑to‑end management of a diverse Marine Leisure portfolio ensuring high‑quality outcomes, robust governance, and strong customer value. Provide expert handling of complex and major losses across Hull, Machinery and Equipment, Salvage and Third-Party Liability claims to support the delivery of the UKGI Plan.

What you'll be doing
Portfolio & Governance Oversight

Oversee the Marine Leisure claims portfolio, ensuring performance aligns with KPIs, business strategy, and a consistent, compliant claims philosophy.

Deliver portfolio analysis and MI—identifying trends, loss ratios, and emerging risks—to drive data‑led decision making and support senior leadership insight.
Technical Claims Handling

Manage complex and major losses across Hull, Machinery and Equipment, Salvage and Third-Party Liability leading full lifecycle handling from FNOL to settlement.

Direct investigations with surveyors, loss adjusters, forensic specialists, legal counsel, and brokers, ensuring accurate coverage, liability assessment, and negotiation.

Maintain accurate reserving in line with philosophy, monitoring development and adjusting proactively, while identifying fraud, subrogation, and recovery opportunities.
Delegated Authority, MGA & Audit Oversight

Oversee delegated claims authority arrangements, ensuring strong governance, due diligence, audit delivery, and adherence to service standards.

Maintain effective partnerships with MGA stakeholders through clear frameworks, reporting protocols, and performance oversight.

Analyse audit outcomes, identify improvements, and implement corrective actions within agreed timelines
Stakeholder & Relationship Management

Serve as the primary technical referral point for Marine claims, supporting capability development across internal teams.

Build and maintain strong relationships with MGAs, brokers, customers, and external experts to enable effective claims resolution.

Collaborate with Underwriting, Pricing, and Reserving to share insights, trends, and market intelligence, representing the business in market forums.
Regulatory, Compliance & Complaints Handling

Ensure claims handling meets regulatory and internal governance requirements, managing complaints to deliver fair outcomes and identify root‑cause improvements.

Escalate risks appropriately while mentoring junior handlers and contributing to training materials for the Claims Academy.

Act as a recognised technical leader within the Marine class, supporting continuous improvement and professional development.
What you'll need to have

DIP CII qualified (or progressing towards completion) or LMA Certificate (Claims) or MTA Certificate (Claims) or equivalent qualification.

Previous hull, cargo, liability and Protection and Indemnity (P&I) experience preferably including complex and major losses.

Strong technical knowledge of marine insurance, vessel operations, maritime law, and claims principles.

Experience in delegated authority oversight, audits, and governance.

Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.

Able to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change, and act as a technical mentor.

Strong relationship‑building skills and solid understanding of regulatory requirements.

Experience launching or managing new claims propositions or products.
What makes you stand out
