The Vacancy
We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, reflective, and forward-thinking Teacher of Psychology to join our vibrant and ambitious team from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding practitioner, whether an experienced teacher or an Early Career Teacher, who is passionate about inspiring young people and shaping the future of education.
The successful candidate will teach Psychology both GCSE and A Level. You will be working with motivated pupils across our co-educational senior school and may be asked to contribute to teaching across any of our sites in Crosby.

The Department
Psychology is available from Year 10 and is a very popular GCSE and A-Level choice at our school.
The subject is taught by dedicated teachers who demand the very best from all pupils studying the course. The Head of Department, Miss S Ladbrook, is an experienced Senior Examiner for the AQA Examining Board and is an academic author.
The Psychology Department offers a stimulating and engaging science-based course, where pupils’ active curiosity for this subject is encouraged and developed in preparation for University and future academic careers.
We follow the AQA Specification.
At GCSE, pupils study the following papers over the two-year course
Paper 1 – Cognition and Behaviour – topics studied include Memory, Perception, Development, Research Methods. Paper 2 – Social
Context and Behaviour – topics studied include Language, Thought and Communication, Social Influence, Brain and Neuropsychology, Psychological Problems
At A Level, pupils study the following papers over the two-year course:
Paper 1. Introductory Topics in Psychology – topics studied include Memory,
Attachment, Clinical Psychology and Mental Health, Social Influence.
Paper 2. Psychology in Context – topics studied include Approaches in
Psychology, Biopsychology, and Research Methods and Statistics.
Paper 3. Issues and Options in Psychology – topics studied Cognition and Development,
Schizophrenia, Forensic Psychology, and Issues and Debates in Psychology.
A wide range of enrichment and extension activities are undertaken in order to support learning and enhance pupils’ understanding of material studied in the classroom. We aim to enable our aspiring Psychology pupils the opportunity to develop their analytical thinking skills and to meet leading academics in the field of Applied Psychology.
Terms and Conditions
The successful candidate will be rewarded on the Merchant Taylors’ teachers pay scale with a salary commensurate with their experience and skills. Management roles will be rewarded though the additional payment of a management allowance.
This a full time position on a permanent basis.
The role will be subject to a probationary period of three academic terms.
