The School
Churcher’s College is an Independent coeducational day school offering Nursery, Junior, Senior and Sixth Form education. With 1055 pupils in the Senior School and 285 pupils in the Junior School (excluding the Nursery) of approximately equal numbers of boys and girls, Churcher’s College enjoys recognition as one of the most accomplished independent, coeducational day schools in the country.
The school is hosted on two campus sites in Hampshire enabling the Junior School and Nursery pupils to flourish in their own beautiful grounds in Liphook, whilst maintaining close links to the Senior School and Sixth Form located in nearby Petersfield. Teaching at Churcher’s College
We provide an excellent education for all pupils based upon traditional values and academic standards, personal discipline and the development of selfconfidence. This is accomplished within a caring environment and a positive balance between academic studies and enterprise and adventure outside the classroom.

Beyond the classroom we offer a vibrant and extensive extra-curricular programme. With over 35 sports teams representing the school a term and unbeaten seasons, sport has strength in numbers and ability. Music and drama flourish with many pupils taking music lessons, numerous accomplished ensembles, and regular highly reviewed and varied student drama productions ranging from A Christmas Carol to Miss Saigon. Getting outdoors with our adventure programme is very popular; CCF, Duke of Edinburgh, plus First and World Challenge expeditions offer exciting opportunities to staff as well as pupils.
Our Teachers
Our teachers are gifted individuals who are able to inspire pupils with their enthusiasm and subject knowledge. They are committed to high quality teaching and participate in the extra-curricular programme. Most are graduates with postgraduate certificates. Those without PGCEs are supported to gain the qualifications soon after appointment. Training and professional development programmes are established, and we are experienced in managing ECT Teachers. Our staff are both ECTs and experienced teachers; providing a stimulating and rewarding environment.
The Music Faculty
The newly built music school opened recently and features a large auditorium with tiered seating, two large rehearsal rooms which can also double up for KS3 teaching, a further two classrooms dedicated to GCSE and A Level teaching and fifteen instrumental teaching/ practice rooms. Classrooms are equipped with computers/laptops (with Sibelius), interactive whiteboards and keyboards. There is also a music technology studio situated in the Sixth Form Centre.
Music is part of the Faculty of Performing Arts, comprising Drama and Music. Faculty meetings offer support within departments and a channel for representation at the meetings of Heads of Faculty.
Music within the Curriculum
Music is taught to all pupils in the first three years and is an option at GCSE and A Level (Edexcel) and holds a high reputation for the standard of its results. Our A Level Course includes opportunities for students to work towards a music theory or written dipolma.
Music and Drama
The College Musical is a bi-ennial event which takes place in a professional theatre, and typically involves large numbers of senior pupils, accompanied by the College Orchestra or appropriate ensemble. Recent productions have included: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (2026), West Side Story (2025), Seussical (2024),
Grease (2023), Annie (2022).
Teacher of Music
The Department currently has a Director of Music, Assistant Director of Music (Academic), Assistant Director of Music (Contemporary), Teacher of Music, a Music Administrator and 28 visiting instrumental teachers. There may be opportuniities for additional responsibilities for a suitably qualified candidate. The successful candidate will possess excellent piano skills and will assist the Director of Music with rehearsing the numerous ensembles throughout the school. They will teach Key Stage 3 classes through to A Level and take an active role in the provision of an extensive public performance programme.
Extra-Curricular Music
The Music Department is a vibrant and busy community. Weekly rehearsals are held for the orchestra, wind band, jazz band, string orchestra, junior wind band, brass ensembles, flute choir, clarinet group, guitar ensemble, saxophone ensemble, string quartets, blues group, senior choir, junior choir, SSA choir, junior chamber choir and a singer/songwriter club. A Rock School takes place on a Saturday morning. The College frequently performs within the community, including regular concerts in St Peter’s Church as well as many concerts within the College each term. There are also performance opportunities outside the Petersfield area including a Scholars’ lunchtime concert in Portsmouth Cathedral and a Summer Concert which has been held in St John’s Smith Square, London and Cadogan Hall, London in recent years.
The College has staged three spectacular outside concerts which have featured the Royal Marines, Opera Gala, Carmina Burana and Last Night of the Proms. This coming summer we will be holding an outdoor concert in the college grounds which will include a choir of 350, a seventy-strong orchestra together with a variety of ensembles, concluding with the 1812 overture with fireworks. The College Orchestra and Jazz Band have recently toured Devon, Lake Geneva, Barcelona, Lake Garda, The Rhineland, and Amsterdam. The SSA Choir have toured Bath and The Junior Choir has toured Paris, singing in Notre Dame and Disneyland , Amsterdam and are about to tour to Belgium.

Application Details
As a consequence of the Children Act 2006 and KCSIE 2025, all staff appointed to positions at Churcher’s College must undergo a check with the Disclosure & Barring Service. A copy of the School’s Recruitment, Selection and Disclosure Policy and Procedure is available on the website. Two written references will be required and any gaps in employment records will be investigated. It is also necessary for all staff to notify the Headmaster before the appointment of any convictions, or other factors which may be relevant to their employment in a school environment.
The post is exempt from the
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children. Terms and conditions
Salary will be calculated according to experience and responsibility at an appropriate point on the Churcher’s College salary scale, which is higher than state levels.
The children of staff are eligible for a fee remission subject to satisfying the usual entry requirements.
Single local accommodation may be available.
A contribution to re-location costs can be claimed subject to the terms of appointment for the post.
