Following a rigorous selection process involving the full Board of Governors and the existing leadership team, Mr. Scott was chosen for his extensive leadership experience and commitment to delivering a broad, high-quality education.
Will Scott brings a wealth of expertise to Churcher’s College, currently serving as Principal of Dame Allan’s Schools in Newcastle upon Tyne. His diverse background spans service in the Royal Navy, a career in international finance, and a passionate dedication to education. Mr. Scott’s leadership has been marked by significant improvements in academic standards, co-curricular opportunities, and school facilities.
Born in Omagh, County Tyrone, and educated in Dublin and Edinburgh, Will Scott studied Economics at the University of St Andrews. After six years of naval service, including postings on HMS Broadsword and HMS Ark Royal, he transitioned to financial markets before finding his true vocation in education. His teaching and leadership roles have included positions at the Royal Grammar School Newcastle, Clifton College Bristol, and St Lawrence College Kent.

Swimming Teachers Level 2 The Role We are seeking fully qualified Level 2 swimming teachers to join our committed team at Churcher’s College Swim School and support our other swimming programmes. The Swim School continues to grow and we are now looking for additional members to join the teaching team. Our aim is to deliver lessons which motivate, educate and encourage children of varying abilities. We are passionate about learning to swim and developing technique. The Swim School runs Learn to Swim classes with a maximum six per class, Fitness and Technique sessions and private lessons across a range of ages and abilities. Weekly group lessons operate term time only and we offer intense courses during the half terms and holidays periods to provide additional swimming opportunities. Job Description Key responsibilities: • • To deliver swimming lessons in a safe and fun manner. To plan lessons taking into consideration each swimmer and to ensure each swimmer gets the most from their lesson. • • • • • • • • • • To follow the ASA awards schemes and Swim England guidance. To be able to teach a variety of ages, abilities and disabilities from beginners to advanced. To ensure good time management to enable punctual start and finish times. Issuing Certificates/Badges or Achievement Awards termly once swimmers have completed and fully demonstrated the required skills consistently. To be able to communicate in a welcoming friendly and professional manner to all the customers. To always work in a safe and professional manner. To be part of the team assisting with set up and clearing away of the equipment is essential. To keep up to date with current techniques and developments. A National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) preferred but not essential. Regular training available on site. The Science Faculty The Science Faculty consists of the three Departments Physics, Biology and Chemistry. Within each subject we have a Head of Department responsible for the overall teaching and learning. The Head of Faculty leads the Faculty and represents our interests within the school. We meet as a Department on a weekly basis and as a Faculty at least once per term. The Faculty consists of 18 specialist teachers supported by three full-time technicians and two part-time technicians. Physics Facilities There are multiple Physics laboratories in a modern Science block. In total there are eleven laboratories within the block, preparation rooms for each science and a spacious lecture theatre, equipped with data projection facilities for group presentations. All of the laboratories contain interactive whiteboards and the department is well equipped. There is a dedicated Physics Technician and fully equipped study area specifically for science staff. Physics within the Curriculum All pupils study the main three sciences separately through to GCSE. Almost all pupils prepare for the higher tier papers. There are currently 3 sets in the Lower Sixth and 2 sets in the Upper Sixth. 1st to 3rd Year (NC years 7-9) pupils have a double period in each science per week (80 mins). This increases to 3 doubles and 1 single period per fortnight in the 4th and 5th Year. In the 1st and 2nd Year (NC years 7&8) Churcher’s has developed its own Physics course which follows the requirements for Key Stage 3 but attempts to stretch pupils further. Pupils start the GCSE course in the 3rd Year and follow the AQA GCSE Physics Separate Science or Trilogy course. At A Level, the students follow the OCR Physics specification. Sixth Form groups are split between two teachers.
