This role is offered on a fixed-term basis aligned to the academic year and learner recruitment. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Sustainability Tutor to join our delivery team, to deliver our new ‘Step into Sustainability’ study programme. This programme is a personalised study pathway, life skills with practical sustainability combining learning, independence, with employability and progression. emphasis on The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sustainability and recent experience working with young people with a range of educational needs. You should be able to evidence a strong link to or recent experience of sustainability/environmental and/or land- based practices .and real-world application. The role involves delivering a tailored and inclusive sustainability curriculum that supports practical, learner- centred and contextualised learning, ensuring that learners have the tools and confidence progression. Key responsibilities These key responsibilities are neither a comprehensive nor exhaustive list, and the duties may be varied from 1 time to time by your line manager or Executive Director. Curriculum Delivery Develop, plan, and deliver engaging and accessible sustainability lessons that cater to the diverse and individual needs of learners, focusing on areas such as; environmental awareness, sustainable living, waste reduction, community/environmental projects, with emphasis on learner independence, employability and progression. Delivery of practical, project-based and experiential learning and opportunities for outdoor learning, enterprise activities or community-based projects, with an emphasis on real-world application of learning. Supporting learners towards progression routes (supported internships, FE, employment, volunteering) and embedding employability and independence within delivery. The postholder will work collaboratively with colleagues to integrate sustainability within the wider study programme, contributing to a consistent and cohesive learner journey. Individualised Support Assess and understand the unique needs of each learner, tailoring sessions and activities to ensure meaningful engagement and success across the curriculum. Work closely with delivery colleagues, to design a learner-centred learning experience that empowers learners to take ownership of their learning, ambitions and future. Then post holder will have a good understanding of adaptive teaching practices 2 and be able to embrace experiential and project-based delivery. Personal Development & Well-Being Support learners in developing a range of life skills, including self-awareness, communication, decision- making, and problem-solving, to foster their independence and confidence. To develop and enhance expertise in supporting learners from all backgrounds, including those with complex social, emotional and mental health needs by attending training as required. These elements will be embedded within sustainability-focused learning. Tracking and Reporting Progress Monitor and track learner progress, providing feedback to learners, parents/carers, and other professionals. Maintain a practical understanding of service standards and Quality Improvement initiatives relevant to the curriculum area and work to these standards, engaging in personal and professional development as appropriate. Promote Positive Behaviour Foster a positive learning environment by encouraging good behaviour, mutual respect, and a growth mindset in all learners. Ensure that individual behaviour strategies are incorporated into all planning for teaching and learning, are rigorously monitored and evaluated and appropriately changed when required. Continuous Professional Development Contribute to the culture of continuous professional development for educational support staff, where learning and development activity is closely linked to 3 Measure of success Continued professional development Personal Development & Qualifications individual, team and organisational priorities. Engage in ongoing training and professional development to keep up to date with best practices, new teaching methods, and SEND, including adaptive teaching, play- based learning and contextualised programmes. This includes achieving established performance metrics, such as positive attendance, achievement rates and progression, demonstrating consistent improvement in processes, and contributing to the overall mission of Step into Learning. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to promote positive relationships with learners and stakeholders, enhance the quality-of-service delivery, and actively participate in initiatives that drive organisational growth and development. The postholder will ensure that Step into Learning safeguarding and welfare policies and procedures are known, understood, and used appropriately. The postholder will keep detailed, accurate, secure written records of concerns and referrals (including electronic documents) and refer all concerns to the safeguarding team.
