Who we are: The Grace Eyre Foundation is a charity based in Brighton & Hove and the wider Sussex community that has been working with people with a Learning Disability and autistic people since 1898. Our mission is to work towards being led by people with Learning Disabilities and autistic people to deliver high-quality housing, support and activities in their local communities. The people we support tell us that they want “good support from kind and friendly people” – so that is what we are looking for!

Introduction to the role:

We support 13 individuals with Learning Disabilities and autistic people, who live in a block of flats in Brighton. Each person we support lives in their own self-contained flat. They receive personalised commissioned support based on their assessed needs.

Brief outline of the role:

The people that we support at Mantell House value their independence and their ability to make their own decisions. They have a range of practical and emotional support needs.

Staff are responsible for administering medication, supporting individuals to attend medical and benefits-related appointments, and assisting them in understanding and responding to correspondence.

Additionally, staff support individuals to maintain a clean living environment, as well as assisting with shopping and meal preparation.

Some individuals require emotional support and there may be occasions where staff are involved in crisis management.

Staff play an important role in helping individuals maintain and develop their independence skills, enabling them to live the life they choose.

Mantell House is staffed 24 hours a day, with shift patterns based on the needs of the people we support.

There is a 6-week rolling rota. The shift pattern includes morning, afternoon, evening shifts and some weekends.

One staff member sleeps in each night.

The People We Support have told us they want:

  • Staff who are not bossy
  • Staff who are non-judgemental
  • Staff who listen and support them in making their own decisions
