The Estates & Facilities Section is looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to assist in the maintenance of Cruickshank Botanic Gardens and University of Aberdeen Grounds. Working 36.5 hours per week, Monday day to Friday for a period of 12 weeks from Monday 1st June to Friday 28th August, 2026. Gardening posts will be full-time, while also including a single part-time Gardener post for 3 days per week (22 hours) as per the same 12-week duration. Successful candidates will be provided with a uniform, protective clothing and relevant training in order to carry out their duties.
Job Description
The successful candidates will be required to assist in the care of the University of Aberdeen’s green estate. Duties could include the maintenance of the living collection of Cruickshank Botanic Garden – watering, weeding, pruning - and to maintain daily a safe space for general public enjoyment and educational use. Additionally, to undertake limited aspects of grounds/sports fields maintenance (litter picking, pedestrian mowing, strimming and general labouring) and ensure the campus is kept clean, tidy and safe. This post would ideally suit an individual with a horticultural background who has worked outside over multiple seasons. Previous experience is desirable.
The role will form part of the Estates and Facilities Section, which is part of the University’s Professional Services. Professional Services consists of student and academic focused areas, as well as providing corporate support.
Salary will be paid on the Grade 1 scale, £24,554 per annum or £12.94 per hour.
